I am quite sure that anyone that was at CID last year knows exactly what I think is funny. You just told Greg to do exactly what we all told you to do last year. Yes, I know you switched to VHT but other than that?

Steve, I am not saying I disagree with Bob at all. It is just funny that he said it.

It would very interesting to know what all the tracks use for traction compound.

It's not what Bob said that's funny, it's the fact the Bob said it. Bob had several crashed cars within a few weeks. Bob wouldn't listen to his racers or other people. When someone would say something Bob would reply with, no one else is complaining. Then everyone told him he needed to hire Mitch or somebody to help prep the track which he never did. It's the hypocrisy of those statements coming from Bob that are funny.

Dennis, I ve watched you post on here all year about making our cars work with what they give us. I ll be interested to see if you get your car to the track, if your going to want to change your chassis setup to go racing at a track that is marginal? Most people that bracket race find something that works 90% of the time and they leave it alone. We are not Pro Stockers that do this for a living, we do this for enjoyment. I 'm not saying anything about the track yesterday because I ve got issues that I m fighting and I ve not got a feel for the track yet, and Jarrod went the finals running within a couple hundred all day. Obviously his car was fine. What I am saying is most people are not going to tune there chassis to the track. They will do as Steve Mass did and go somewhere else if there setup works there. Again, my comment here is not whether or not the track was good. It is that most racers are not going to change their setup to go to 1 track (any track) when what they have works somewhere else. Dennis, We took our Firebird to Haas Racecars in Fenton, Mo to get the chassis set-up for the kind of power my car makes. They are professional Pro-Stock car builders, they set the car up to go straight for the power that it makes. When there is an event for a quick series, the track should not be "marginal" to begin with and I should not have to make chassis adjustments. The 60's at CID are fine, my car goes absolutely straight as an arrow. When I get to the 330' and beyond that's when it gets scary. I've gone down that track straight many times before without issues. There is a common denominator with the quicker door cars there on the big end, this wasnt an issue in the past. The track is more forgiving for dragsters and thats always been known.

I do think there is a line here. With your bird Steve...the track will always be on the edge even in the best conditions. Havana has long been known as a having 330 issues and a 4 sec door car is gonna be hit or miss. The 60's should be Ok because the chassis is at full transfer but once you get out and level off then the bumps and surface take over. You need some brass b*lls to run it every week. ;D
But to me, when a track can't handle 5.50 and up door cars....thats another issue. Today cars in this range are about middle of the road (ET) and a track shoul dbe able to handle these. At a minimum. And yeah....underpowered/over tired dragsters and 6.30 up door cars seem to do the best.

i have to agree with Steve, i have not been to the track this year and i don't race but there is a heck of alot more involved with track prep than spraying the compound and walking away and with the new surface i don't think bumps are to much of an issue and even without seeing the new surface 1st hand i am fairly confident that the new surface has alot more contact area for the tires than the old rock and chip surface that was there. when its 90 degrees outside there is only so much you can do but you do have to work at it, as i said before if the racers see the track management doing all they can they will cut them some slack on days when the track is not very good knowing that they tried, but if the effort is not there than we all know what happens next

I have a serious question. Will the vp compound be more sensitive to track temp and direct sun light than vht? I ask because our gto was on rails all day. Went 6.09 with a 1.332 60 ft right lane, then the slowest of the day at 6.114 with a 1.344 60. The car then went 1.344 short again with a dead on 6.103 on a 6.10 first rd back in the right lane. 2nd round in the right lane, I had my third straight 1.344 short time and won on a double breakout against Sully with a 6.096 on my 6.10. 3rd round, the sun is off the track, so I stick the 9 on it even though the humidity is climbing. I tap the brake and still go 6.06 on my 6.09. I picked up .030 in short time with a 1.314. I realize on a day like it was , hot and sunny, its murder on a track, but like someone said earlier, that's what we have most of the summer. I heard from many others that they broke out .02-.05 around that same tome of day. I realize the track will tighten up, but that's a lot... Could it be that this v.p. compound is extra sensitive ?

vp will pick up quite a bit when the sun gets off of it.
