well i notice they put some info on the web site about the nostalgia races. doesn't look like i will be running those events. i notice that they changed the time runs, test and tune cars are now allowed to run with the rest of you. just wonder how many time runs they will get, if only 2 runs between 10 and 12:30 for test and tune, bummer not worth going up for.

I am a regular test and tune car @ CID. We will again be running with the Nostalgia Quick Series Association. I am very much looking forward to a Fresh Start at Central Illinois Dragway. To have a track within an hour of home is a real blessing. Last year we tested numerous times at CID and with the help of friends ran the best times of the 2011 season there. The Nostalgia races at Havana have been a big hit and having talked with Frank a few times expect it to get even better. See ya there!
OH, I still have the 12" Hoosiers for sale . Thanks. George

there will be just as many runs for tnt as there have ever been, why would anyone assume they would only get two tnt runs?

Because their only allowing two time runs for everyone Bill.... That's what he was talking about. Sometimes a new car or a new driver needs more runs. Open time runs before eliminations makes it so a person gets to run when he's ready and as many times as needed before the lanes are closed. What's the problem with that?
Drag Racing has been this way from the begaining at all tracks, The younger racers that were too young to race don't know this was a better way so they want sessions because that's the only way they know. If a track has a large car count, yes the sessions are a better way, but if the track has lower car counts like CID normally has, open time runs makes sense.
Open time trials take no extra time, you open the lanes at a certain time and close the lanes at a certain time... you then do your shootout and go into eliminations.
You need to promte a race day to spectators so you can possibly get more spectators next week... not try to get it over as fast as you can. This year the car count will probably be worse then last year because of $4.00 plus gas and Gateway being back open.
It's the spectators that buy the hamburgers and pay the addmission.... It's that money that's going to pay the bills and employees. Entry fee's will only cover the purse and insurance unless you get a large car count. And until the track gets a bigger car count, there is no extra money and the track struggles financially like it did last year. I spent several dollars that we made on good race days repairing equipment and updating.
You add it up... it costs $2200.00 each bracket race day just to open the gate, that don't count buying food or drinks and that don't count the racer payouts.... That's just a normal race day. This also don't count the Managers Salary. Now add up the car count entry fee's and do the payouts. You only hope you get a decent bunch of spectators that are hungry around lunch time.
The point I'm making is why not make a show out of the race and let the spectators that are sitting in the sun try to enjoy themselves by keeping the cars going down the track. Sessions only mean they get to see the cars run once or twice and they also get to sit in the sun watching nothing during short periods of down time while you wait for cars to get into the lanes after they are called up and wait for the drivers to get suited up.

Actually you'll get 2 time runs before eliminations then 1 run between every round until the end of the day starting with 2nd round. Most race days have about 6 rounds of eliminations so test and tune cars can get at least 7 runs.

since still i have to get the chassis updated, the car might not be ready for the either t n t weekend. i will be running a different car this year and will have to get used to the way it works, and with the way they want to run time trails it will suck I M O.
THINK ABOUT THIS!!! If you were a spectator which would you rather do, sit in the sun and watch cars go down the track all the time, or sit in the sun and wait 20 to 30 minutes for each session to start??? if i were sitting just watching I WOULD WANT TO SEE CARS GOING DOWN THE TRACK ALL THE TIME.
THERE SEEMS TO BE AN OLD IDEA THAT HAS GOTTEN FORGOTTEN ABOUT,
THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT. without the customers, be they racers or not, the track will fail.

I'm sorry but I'm having a really hard time understanding what you are talking about. Where is this down time coming from? They'll call up Pro and when half the cars are gone they'll call up S/Pro. S/Pro will be ready and waiting and they will flow seamlessly into the end of Pro. When S/Pro is halfway done they will call up Sportsman. Sportsman will be ready and waiting to flow seamlessly into the end of S/Pro. This happens with every class until you're back to Pro. There's ZERO down time during time runs with the exception of changing classes in the computer. Where in this scenario does any down time come from?

I agree 100% with dragracer. As far as the open time runs not taking extra time I beg to differ.Open time runs may have been how things started at most drag strips back in the late 60s and 70s but there is a reason 90% of the tracks don't use that format anymore, it is a absolute cluster f**k when there are more than 50 cars on the property. Not to mention the numerous times CID let the open time runs go as long as 3 to 4pm on a Sunday. For the people that still need to test n tune after the first two weeks of the season you better ask somebody for help because you are doing something wrong. Also it is not about getting it over as fast as you can...since the track needs to run the program on a Sunday to have the chance to pull cars from Cordova, Charleston, and St Louis area the track needs to finish at a reasonable time like 5 or 6pm to allow those racers that did travel time to get home and get some sleep since most people do work on Monday. And the spectators just like the racers don't want to be at a track sitting in the sun all day and have to stay around until 8 or 9pm on a Sunday just to see the final round, which was a regular ritual all year.I remember the last couple races were finished around 6 or 7 but the car count was so low it should have been finished by 4pm. There was more down time with the open time runs due to the majority of racers not wanting to burn up fuel and tires for the sake of driving down the track. Most racers waited until an hour or so before the lanes shut off to make only a couple passes because that's all they needed. I'm so thankful for the people that spoke up to Frank and saved the track and racers from another year of an embarrassing hot mess.

i have had a bad feeling every time i've went out to the garage to work on the race car all winter. that feeling went from bad to why bother working on the car when i found out who would be running the track this year.
things got a bit better when they released plans for gateway to reopen, at least i had another option as to where to go racing. some people tried like heck to talk me into going back to cid, saying it would be alright up there, but that feeling resurfaced. to everyone who thinks all is right with the world because jaklyn's people are in charge again, all i have to say is
HERE'S YOUR SIGN

Hey problemchild, can you give me the winning lotto numbers for the mega million since you seem to have the ability to read future events.I think you should leave your car in the garage and save yourself the embarrassment anyway.

Some folks just can't comprehend " FRESH START". It's asinine to be critical of something that hasn't happened yet. I would like to think eveyone is looking for the success of CID---------but reading some posts show that isn't so.

well i for one am hoping like hell it flourishes , i had a chance to talk to Greg on Saturday and he has a plan , a vision if you will, and he has the best interests of the track at heart. He cant do it alone its gonna take racers and fans to make it happen. I personally never had an issue with Bob and still dont. The track can and will flourish if people get behind it and everyone seems to tend to forget we race to have FUN. People im gonna have fun im gonna race and im totally sick of people bein negative before the gates have even opened. Ok im off my soap box. See everyone on the 31st. <3
