As far as the LTX "Chevy race" getting shoved down your throat. I would not get real excited. Right now there are less than 10 cars registered for it.

What is ltx? Do they mean LSX? Its for cars that are powered by LT1 and LT4 engines. They mostly came in camaros and firebirds from 93-97 92-96 vettes and some caprice and impalas.

What is payout for this race? Normal pro-rated bullcrap? You guys crack me up with this! I am sure it is the normal tier payout that they had all year that still paid better than most tracks around.

I know everyone likes to see the word Guarantee on the payout sheet, but the tier they have is pretty good if you check it out. Super Pro was about the smallest class Gateway had all year and seems that is the class they cater to at the time, it still paid 1000 to win almost every race this season for the 1/4 mile class, which is the main points class. Only takes 33 cars to pay 1000 and that's a damn near guarantee and at 49 cars it pays 1200. That's a pretty good payout for a weekly deal for this area. I love going to Benton, but it doesn't pay anymore and it is 2 hours for me. Harrisburg is the only track that has a better payout around, but again it is a pretty good haul to get there. I would love to see the car counts improve in Super Pro, but I am not sure at the time what would do it. I think 1/8 would help, but not sure how much.

Harrisburg is no longer guaranteed payout. Last week they had 33 sp cars and only paid 3 spots.

Apparently I was mis-informed. Everyone was telling me all summer that Gateway was paying $600-$800 to win in S/P, which is far inferior winner payout to entry ratio when compared to what every other track (ie. SDS, I57, Beacon, Lyons and H'burg) were paying. Was not criticizing track, but rather just critizing pro-rated payouts in general, and if in fact Gateway was routinely pulling 33+ cars each week, then why not guarantee the money? While for local racers this may not be a big deal, for racers that have to pull any distance, the words "guarantee" mean something. Tough for me to justify a $100 diesel bill and higher entry fee when I can do the same for lower cost at the other tracks listed. Just my opinion.

Mark gateway could put all of these little tracks in a world of hurt if they would just guarantee like 1500 to win each week it would allow people like you to compete here on a regular basis . And really would ice the cake if they had a sponsor like Danny Nelson or something and give the track champion a check worth cashing at the end of the year . But that all requires work like what Norwalk does. I don't blame you for not traveling for a non guarantee payout.

I don't think it's that simple. Harrisburg was guaranteeing 1500 win on Fridays and Saturdays... it didn't last long because he was losing money hand over foot due to low car counts.
People race where they feel comfortable or at home. For some its a anti GMP thing, or for some its a "I don't have a NHRA License or want a NHRA license thing, or for some it's the friendly people thing, or for some its a 1/8th mile vs 1/4 mile thing, or for some its a money to travel thing, or for some it's a time of day the race is held thing, or for some it's a what way is the wind blowing today thing, etc etc etc. If the anti-GMP/ Benton/Sikeston/Harrisburg/cid crowd would show up to GMP every week we wouldn't be having a conversation about tiered payouts -vs- guaranteed because sp would be paying 1200 or 1500 to win with deep/good payback every week. I like that better than the top heavy standard "guaranteed" purse structure other tracks have.
Mark, if the main sp weekly points race structure was 1/8th mile would you show up every race? How bout the rest of the Benton superpro crowd?
The race this topic is about will pay at least 1K to the winner... Only one class, it's 1/8th mile, there is a wally up for grabs, and the weather will probably be nice. The only bad thing is the early start. But I predict at least 33 super pro cars
