So if I understand you correctly. Anybody who does not agree with your opinion about racing 1/8 mile. Is having a "hissy fit" LOL You would not happen to know who is sending me the wonderful hate email over this subject would you? Don't have a clue who is sending you hate mail . And I could care less what pro ,sportsman , or superpro runs 1/8 or 1/4 or 1,000' makes no difference to me . All I know is for as long as I can remember of the three car classes PRO is the ones complaining about everything. No slow cars, no fast cars, no dragsters, no motorcycles, this guy is cheating, this guy has a laptop, that guy has a box, I want 1/4 mile so Jimmie Barret can't run points in his camero. I have ran all three classes and by far pro is most "hissy" throwing of all. I think out of all the BS from this entire thread, that the bolded statement above is my favorite! LOL Why in the hell would this have anything to do with some of the guys in pro wanting 1/4. I like Jimmy a lot and think he is a great guy and would love to have him come race with us every weekend, but I would say majority of the guys in pro do not even know who he is, so for you to throw dumb statement out like this is just hilarious! the length we race I am sure has nothing to do with why Jimmy Barrett doesn't come to Gateway, he has a track 5 minutes from his house, so why would he drive an hour away to race for 800 to win. Heck even when they have had better paying no box on the 1/8 mile he doesn't make it there and I would say having a track in your back yard would be the reason and I don't blame him. Jimmy is as bad to the bone as they come, but for you to throw statements like that out there are pretty absurd and this wasn't the 1st time you have used his name in a reference. I can guarantee that majority of the Gateway racers would be much more feared to race against Dan Smith than they would Jimmy just because everyone at Gateway knows him.

Clay I know jimmy probably better than most . So I will send him a text and see if 1/8 or 1/4 has anything to do with him never bringing his camero to gateway for a regular Saturday race. And I bet I know the answer. Either way I was just throwing out one example of one of the MANY things that many pro guys mite have an issue with. I throw jimmys name around a lot because we are good friends and I like giving people credit when it's deserved.

Jason I know you and Jimmy are good friends and like I said, he is an awesome guy and I like Jimmy too, but I thought it was a incredibly ridiculous thought that he would be a reason some guys wanted 1/4 mile when like I said, I bet half the field doesn't even know who he is!

"More of a streetable car" ? I can't find that in the NHRA rule book. Must be JYO . I guess it's just my opinion. When a class doesn't allow any electronics and is the only class allowed to use shoe polish, then I think NHRA intends for the class to be for daily drivers and slow race cars. Oops I said slow race cars. When you say no electronics in either car, do you use an air shifter?

While some of the Sportsman cars may be "Slow Motion" vehicles compared to Pro and super Pro, everyone knows it's a very serious class and always has been. Nobody jumps in their tow vehicles any more and steals the cash from that group. It's a hard core class who maybe doesn't have as much tied up in their cars as some of the other classes. With Ron Rathgeb coming back this year, division 3 Champion Lipka and all the other hitters in the class, it will be an interesting class. I've always said the track could use a trophy class on Sat. for people to get their feet wet. And that would be the only class you can enter for the night. No doubling up in other classes. Strickly for beginners running 12s or slower. It wouldn't cost the track anything more than a trophy, but would pay big future dividends by providing a class that isn't so intimidating. Sportsman has never been a beginner class that I saw. It's just the class most people could afford to compete in at first.

I think with the 13-16 year old class coming that the trophy class is a must now. Start in the youth class and then on to high school and the trophy class for two years then sportsman if you still like the sport. Sounds good to me.

I've spent the majority of the past 20 years in the slow car. Even now I'm one of the slowest in S/P. The altered carries the "Slowmotion 5" logo. I bet there are a lot of sportsman cars that cost more than my car.
