There is no reason for it not to be one. Just set the computer up as a super pro class during the runoff and then let the no box car put an N after their dial.

I would think most in Sportsman class would run Pro 1/8 mile if they want to double up. Especially if Pro 1/8th are points. I think the reason most double entered in Sportsman 1/4 and Pro 1/4 last year was the points were both in 1/4 mile. I know when I ran Sportsman, I much more preferred 1/8 mile Pro if I double entered. Regardless, sounds like everyone will have a chance to double enter if they want. Sounds like a good format. I hope they also consider a trophy class.

CHERRY PICKING, REALLY ? Pro & Sportsman have been racing together for years. Pro & S/Pro together as well. Highschool is an Entry level class for trophys. A footbrake car beating a dragster in the final for a Wally, Priceless ! But NOT the norm. It appears to me some S/Pro racers want to set/make the rules for all the other classes. If S/Pro has a diet for more $$$ maybe they could have a $100 entry fee? NHRA has set the time breaks, like them or not. Which has caused some rule changes, "slicks & open headers" in Sportsman. Bret Kepner once said when a Sportsman racer wins a Championship, they should move up to Pro. With that logic a Pro racer should move up to S/Pro. And where should a 3 time S/Pro Champion go? Move up to the NHRA ranks, Or "keep cherry pick'in JMO

If GMP would keep the Trophy class as a class also on Sat .Then maybe more would come and learn . But as in last several years they have it one weekend then not the next ,no consistancy.
Sportsman and pro I've said before seem to have improved the own car counts and not priced themselves out of the entry and cost to run their cars.
If they throw the winners of the combo box no box together to run off .How many SP cars would split ?

Senior, I honestly don't think Tim was trying to take a shot at any of the pro/sportsman guys, even though it may have came across that way. I think he was trying to refer to there being no beginner class for the new entry level racer and at one time the sportsman class was supposed to be that and periodically the class does get some new blood that comes down to try and they are easy pickings for most of the racers that run the class on a regular basis. It hasn't been a beginner class in well over 10 years though for sure. I think most people (I know I do) try to race within a certain budget and it really doesn't matter what the skill level is of the driver, they are going to race in the class that fits their budget. There are many drivers in the sportsman/pro class every bit as skilled as the drivers in super pro if not more skilled. To me its all about what race car you can afford and in which class do you have the best opportunity to win with that car. If I had a car that ran low 12's in the 1/4 mile I would be running it in sportsman more than I would be in pro, because that is where my best opportunity to win would be. No different than having a car that runs in the mid 9's in the 1/4, I have a better opportunity in pro than I do super pro. Over the last 10 years you have seen many doorcars make the switch from super pro to pro and its not because of the skill level of the driver, its because the equipment they can afford to race with is better suited now days in a different class. All the classes at the track have evolved through the years and most of it has all been centered around money. My advice to anyone that thinks a certain class is easier than another is make the switch and see how things fair out for you, because there are no easy classes to win in at Gateway.

"I honestly don't think Tim was trying to take a shot at any of the pro/sportsman guys"
I am positive that Tim wasn't doing that at all. Personally, I was just having fun with the statement. As far as I'm concerned, no harm, no foul on anyone's part.
As far as the caliber of racers in any class... there are quite a number of people in each category that are killer, no matter what the restrictions are, whether it be ET limits, electronics or whatever.
Clay, your statement regarding dollars being a limiting factor really does ring true.

The days of a "Allen Mollet " type of season or in his case multiple seasons are long gone. Nobody will ever be able to win multiple championships in one year gateway. The drivers in every class are just too good in thier respective classes. Dan Smith made it happen on one givin evening last year , but all season is another story . Imo

Guys I would never take shots at drivers from another class....as a matter of fact I intend to do more bottom bulb racing in the future. My cherry picking quote was aimed at the cars that can run 10s entered in sportsman instead of super pro. ..nothing to do with talent or ability. .I agree with Clay that you enter the class you feel you have the best chance of winning in. I may have implied that sportsman was an entry level class because at gateway it is the only option a newbie has. And as modest as I can say this it's 4x super pro champ....lol

If that's supposed to be an apology, I didn't hear it. And you did PISS me off with your "flaming bag of dog s**t" statement. Extremely poor taste in my opinion. You make a great sales pitch with your "obvious choices", but I'm not buying. It sounds like you want Pro to feed your low car count S/Pro class. Think "outside" the box Tim.

I personally would like to see a I-57 style foot-brake class , 1/8 or 1/4 don't really care which . Itwould be nice to have a class my satellite would fit in . My car runs 10s so to fast for sportsman (not willing to slow my car down that much ) and i don't have a trans brake . Just my opinion.

Be tough to have a true foot brake class Everyone seams to want to break what ever class suits them at the time they choose to run it You have set classes quit trying to reinvent the wheel That not broken Pro n sportsman classes is not a issue

But why cant you just run it in PRO? My Black Firebird that I ran in pro this year and several other years in the past at Gateway is a true footbrake car (IE no transbrake,no 2 step, no buttons or dual line locks. ect) Just one foot on the brake and one on the gas and it runs 10's.
