It is sad because some of the best memories I have was at Megabucks. I ran into Todd Capp & Mike Cutler at the Nostalgia weekend. We sat and talked for an hour about those races. Grilling out as a group...bringing the keg....Todd doing his Angelle inpersonation in the pit bike race.
Great weekends!!

The problem Dennis is that they HAVE NOT PUT IN AN EFFORT AND TRIED TO HAVE A SUCCESSFUL RACE! That's the part I can't comprehend. I understand the events they have been having have not worked out, but the main factor is how they have went about those events. I will add though that I love your idea of going all in next season! The racers/participants are on the low end of the priority list. Sometimes, in big business it is the intent to fail because the rewards (that you will not see) far out-weigh the risk. They just need to show that they made at least a moderate effort to be successful. We will see how this plays out in the long run.

I've suggested as a pts racing group we ask for these things before the season starts as a collective group to have all racers backs. This is going into our 4th year and the simplist rules ,procedures ,payout, lane choice ,dialins ,byeruns seem to be confused and interepeted differently by many . Pts races ,rainout procedures ,best of 8 out of 10 with makeup races thrown here and their . I would not like to miss out but many on here had to eat more than 2 because of prior commitments .

I have no hate towards any of the management of Gateway, but I do have a complete lack of understanding their event planning part of their business. Whether it is Mega Bucks, Mopar Madness, Super Chevy, or Fun Ford I want to see these big events have success, but I can't understand why the track does not want the same. The only one of all of these events that they gave an honest attempt to get cars here was Mopar Madness a couple years ago when they guaranteed all the big money that the racers wanted and nobody showed up. Since that happened they have not even attempted to have a successful big event. Every Megabucks race they have did since reopening has had a flyer released the month before the event, which is a guarantee failure and has did nothing to intrigue many racers to travel from any distance. Last years 1st megabucks was the closest thing they have had to the old race and it wasn't a bad turn out. That was a good opportunity to start getting some of these racers back that always came before. All of us racers that go to some of these races out of town are always asked when they are going to return to the old megabucks format and say they miss that race. Bottom line on all of these events is that the track continues to set themselves up for failure from the beginning and that does not fall on the racers. A well planned out special event can draw cars and make the track money. Clay I feel like it's my fault kinda. I told Chris that the mopar race always worked in the past . Guarantee the money I said. Boy was I wrong. Would things be better now if I would have said pro rate the mopar race? Or if people would have showed up. Like clay said after that race every race has been doomed from the start. Wish the first race would have been anything but the mopar thing had no idea they would boycott and ruin all future Gmp ran special events.

Whether any race is pro rated or guarantied is not the reason for any race to succeed or fail. GMP has stepped up at several race events and paid Up the purse full But the events still failed If Mr Francis wants the strip to be THE PLACE then He needs to be at the helm !! I think some one should put out a missing report out for him ,,,APB !! Because with the money involved at just the drag strip alone. It had best be performing at top tier !! Beings its not , if I was him I would want to know why ! Either he wants failure and supports it ,,, or Someone is very good of non communication and mis information to Mr Francis Either way its bad Starting to sound like several track operators doing the very same deal Z-Max has had issues since it opened of it pavement coming loose nothing done to fix it So lots of questions few answers

Whether any race is pro rated or guarantied is not the reason for any race to succeed or fail. WE KNOW THATS NOT THE REASON. THE REASON IS THEY HAVE NOT PUT ANY EFFORT INTO MAKING THEM A SUCCESS!GMP has stepped up at several race events and paid. YES THEY HAVE AND THEY HAVE ALSO NOT STEPPED UP ON A COUPLE OCCASIONS WHEN THEY COULD HAVE ON THE WEEKLY PURSES! Up the purse full. NOT SAYING THIS DIDN'T HAPPEN, BUT I CAN'T RECALL THIS HAPPENNING! But the events still failed. YES THEY DID FAIL, BECAUSE THEY MADE NO EFFORT INTO MAKING THEM SUCCEED! The entire point to this is the track has not put forth the effort to make any of these events a success. Does not matter if you guarantee $50,000 to win for a $100 entry fee, the race will fail if the information is put out a month before the event and their is nothing to go with the race, but a $50,000 first prize. Dennis you were right on the money earlier in this thread when you stated that they have the facility and capability to cripple every track around, because they do. If they put together a program that was just 20% of what a large track like Norwalk does the place would be filled. The difference is that Norwalk works hard to put events together to succeed and it shows. You can say that they are in an area where there are a lot more cars, but the fact is Gateway is not in a bad location for cars, you just have to work at getting them there, but they will come. Bottom line is that you have to want something to succeed for it to happen, and like Pat said, maybe it's possible that successful events are not a priority. Mega mopar was highly advertised , put out months before Fun ford week end another highly asvertised event Even the highly much touted Super Chevy Wasnt a huge success by any means yes better but no barn burner I see the how the track just goes thru the motions of putting on a race. Like getting served. at a restraunt Here it is. Show you show dont ya dont i can see that Thru the years a cycle is born the energy once put forth Is gone Its no excuse to keep that thought To advertise in local Papers is highly exspensive , tv is out , radio is only cheap way but with so many stations which one how many ? Magazines is high unless you get a sponsor out of it,, and at best only monthy issues so they are out!
Face book is free twitter free
Word of mouth could be bad thing You have a web site ,, cool ,, bad bad Info is bad not updated hard to navigate very limited info They have electronic billboard great!! Web sites such as this place and others who spread the word ,, So what are they missing ?? The lack of what they pay out They put out a schedule as with all subject to change So its the lack of what pay outs are?? Not the lack of events scheduled??

Lol I wasn't going to say anything, but I kinda laughed on the 700 passes myself. I go lots of rounds and race quite a bit and I bet I haven't put 700 passes on both cars combined in the last 3 years! That's a lot of passes when you figure 75% of the racers that race at Gateway and go to a couple other races a year probably never see 150 runs in a season. Heck we all see how much Jeremy runs the crap out of his nova and I bet he will only have about 250 on it this season and I guarantee nobody that is on this site on a regular basis puts more passes down the track in a season as he does.

Yes clay I put 150 per yer on the dragster for the past three years. And the ford race was advertised but never paid crap. From the first one in 2012. No heads up classes no trophy classes and the bracket classes were prorated from day one.

They put lots of effort into the Midnight madness events. They are all over facebook all the time. Wide open Wed. cheap beer. They get everybody coming into the track for at least $15. Then they pay nothing out and you have a bunch of highschoolers that blow money at the concession stand etc.
