No matter what we are damned if we do and damned if we don't! Last year we had several racers who entered multiple times and complained they couldn't get to the lanes fast enough to keep from running themselves in the 1/4's and wished we done a ladder so at least they'd have a chance to not run themselves til the finals With the locals having paid parking spots which are close to staging its easy for them to get in the lanes early so they are in the front of the line and can come back to run another racer. To try accommodating racers who had multiple entries and keeping them from running themselves once a color is down to 4 or less cars we put them on a ladder. The ladder was made from the previous rounds reactions times. This was announced before racing started, during time runs and multiple times during eliminations. It was mearly a luck of the draw. The racer in question who some feel was given an unfair advantage by getting a bye in the third round and into the finals because he was a "local racer" had only raced at CCD once. He just happen to have the best reaction time in the 2nd round getting the bye run in the 3rd round. The third round had 9 racers and so the 4th round had 5 racers left having us create a ladder with the best reaction time being #1 qualifier and so forth down. The racer in question had the second best reaction time making him the #2 qualifier. In round 4 the #1 qualifier got the bye. Then in round 5 with three racers left the #2 qualifier got the bye. Jimmie hadn't had a bye all day, but a ladder was created two rounds previously. A ladder doesn't change after its been done. It was just a numbers deal that didn't work in his favor and very easily wouldn't of come into question if there was 10 cars in the third round or we used closest to dial instead of reaction time or... Normally a ladder isn't used at CCD except for Quick racing where qualifying times are used. Again it was a situation that could of gone multiple ways with Jimmie being the #1 qualifier, getting the bye and nothing would of been said, or we could of told the racers who wanted a ladder we aren't going to do this and then they'd be on here complaining we didn't accommodate them... Its an unfortunate situations that I hope never happens again! Maybe the answer is not to have multiple colors in a class and just allow one entry. I'm completely dumbfounded on what would of allowed us to accomidate everyone. Bottom line I'm very upset with myself, because we don't want to have any unhappy customer. I have open ears to have some suggestions sent my way on how or what is/was a better way to accommodate everyone considering every possible situation. colescountydragway@gmail.comI understand Jimmie frustration with how it went down and sorry it happened. I hope the best for him as he kicks butt around the Midwest.

Any time you enter multi times same class ,it is the racer responsibility to have ' HIS RACE PLAN' together. I never enter same class multi times, unless it is a different class! It is great for the track, great for the racer,so long as he has the plan ! Other than that , strap your self in,, race your race, Rod you guys do heck of a job!!

Less drama more racing. A ladder sounds the like the fairest way. Drag racing is a fun sport. Let's keep it that way.

several factors come in to play in a situation like this in my opinion, if the track used the same rules this time that they always do then that is the end of that discussion although there may be different opinions on which way is best doing the same thing and being consistant with the rules is important, and sometimes its how the situation is handled by mamagemet/racer is sometimes a much bigger problem than what originally happened and in this case there might be 2 people that know or there might be 200 and i have no idea because i was not there. i will say that ALL racers and spectators that pay hard earned money at the gate should be and must be treated the same whether they are there 1 time a year or 40 times a year if you want to survive especially in todays economy. i don't think this is breaking news when i say that bad news travels much faster than good news

I know this is not what happened but this is my problem with using a ladder. It's possible a racer could use two buy backs, get two bye runs and only have to actually win ONE single round (not necessarily in that order) to get second place where the winner may have to win up to 6 rounds. I guess my main question is, if the ladder is for racers who are double entered and not 1 of the 5 racers left is double entered....why the ladder? Seems this situation could have been looked at right there and avoided altogether.
Was the ladder rule posted on any flyers or any info anywhere? Could you please let us know if ladders will be used in the future, before race day?

You are .00 and dead on sir....if there were no cars double entered, why bother with a ladder? But if Coles plans to continue the ladder system somebody should check out the Crossroads dragway sportsman flyer for this weekend. It gives a very informative explanation of how the sportsman ladder will and should work, also what will happen with the cars that have already had bye runs.Which is those drivers being moved to the bottom of the ladder so the people who have not had bye runs are eligible first.Something so simple was made very difficult Saturday night. Not the end of the world but still irritating.
