The track yesterday was terrible at times but came around at the end of the night. My last super pro time trial after the rain was bad. Then they glued the track and sent the super stock cars down two soon and almost crashed two in a row in the right lane. We understand that vp is cheaper than vht. Hamburger is cheaprer than steak too. If you have poor traction you will lose racers. If you have good traction you will have more racers. Jeremy, Which track are you referring to here? Thanks! LA

I understand Jeremy what you are saying and I agree with you guys that traction does need to be better; I am just on this board to try and give a inside scoop of what is going on whenever I can. Like I tell everyone else if you ever need something relayed directly to Pat or anything just find me in the staging lanes and I'm more than happy to help you guys out some of you who have dealt with me already know this.

I relayed my concerns about VP to the management team at CID 2 weeks ago. If they feel VP is best for the track then thats just the way is. I appreciate that they listened to my concerns and are taking them into consideration.

Are you guys talking about CID or Gateway? I talked with a guy that ran CID yesterday, and he said the traction was pretty good. He thought very good for being a green track, with so few a cars running on it. So far we are hearing Gateway here, not CID.

It seems the conversation went to VP vs. VHT.

fair statement we all like vht better, but we dont have to pay for it. I guess the tracks are expecting the driver to do the best they can with the best the track can provide. Call me crazy but thats called racing.

That may be but when it crosses the line and safety of the cars & drivers becomes questionable...now it's no longer about just racing. NHRA always touts itself as being formed to provide a SAFE and secure environment for it's members to enjoy the sport. Cars today are nothing like they wer 10yrs ago. ET's & speeds are unreal now. Tracks need to keep pace.
I stick to the two points I made earlier:
1. If the track asked it's drivers...my bet is most would agree to $5 more at the gate to pay for VHT. I would.
2. It's competition for the limited cars today. if your track is a slip & slide....I and many others will be somewhere else. Now the extra cost for glue is a non-issue......becuase your closed!!

i agree with you chad , and i personally would pay the extra money. we all know my car isnt fast but when i ran the first day at gateway it tried to go sideways on the 2/3 shift twice at gateway opening day and no i didnt like it much, and you fast guys i can see its an issue. So i guess we will have to see what they decide

Surprise Chad we finally agree on something. if the word gets out that there is no traction, racers will avoid that place like it has AIDS. no matter how many times the track management goes on these forums and says there are no traction problems, racers will listen to and believe the other racers. I was told they were trying to hire Bob Gibson's son to help prep the track, since he did that last year, don't know if he went. as most of us have read on these threads, you can not just spray the track once with vp and be good for the day. vp has to be reapplied several times during the day to maintain traction. unless there is an oil down you might have to reapply vht once. vp was costing about $600 a barrel, but it is ready to spray. vht was costing about $1100 a barrel, but you have to add methanol to cut it to suit the needs of the track. IS IT WORTH RISKING A DRIVERS AND SPECTATORS SAFETY TO SAVE A COUPLE HUNDRED DOLLARS EACH WEEKEND? ?? was trying to be ready to race last weekend, but ran out of time. if even half of what I've heard is true, i don't know if i want to go, even with the car detuned like it is.

It has already been established that the track being talked about here is Gateway not CID. This thread has turned a CID thread into a Gateway traction compound discussion. As far as CID track prep goes, I'd encourage everyone to talk to the drivers that were in attendance last weekend as they were VERY happy. Thanks!

From well respected top dragster racer Lynn Ellison
"LOL, at Columbus last year they switched from VP to VHT during the race and on average everyone picked up about .08 and the track was...tada! Great after that."

It's people like you that get on these sites and talk sh*t about racetracks while you have yet to make a pass down any track this season.I have been to every test n tune and regular program this season and the track is not only good and getting better every week for my cars but there have been several cars repeating times run after run in the 5 and 6 second range. One weekend we had a big tail wind and last weekend was a head wind and most cars were still running very close. As far as spraying the track I watched the sprayer go down the track twice before time runs the length of the track and would spray again during eliminations probably two or three times at least. All these small tracks need support to stay open, not some internet bench racer being negative and talking trash when you obviously do not know first hand how the program is being run and what the track is even like.
