vp sucks probally is good for a car with no power I guess you missed the post where I mentioned a 5.34 door car didnt have any trouble....you must have a bad asz door car if you consider a 5.34 door car to have no power. Jimmie Barrett well said Jimmie

I'll admit my ignorance on this subject but its my understanding that you cut VP with methanol to decrease its curing time to allow cars to go down the track within 5-10 minutes of spraying. It can be sprayed straight from the drum but the cars will slip and slide if not allowed adequate time to fully cure.

Nothing negative here...but keep in mind.....when the track heats up....THAT is when you will see issues. Not now. In spring, any and all tracks hook like velcro.
Hopefully, CID can follow Cordova's formula because that place always out hooked Havana. Regardless of owner. But...I am sure it has a newer starting line too.
if it's consistent week in and week out.....I don't care if they use 3M.

I saw where the gateway guys are discussing track prep. Here is a quote I thought may be of interest....
This info is last years but I think you can see why alot of tracks are going to VP My VP guy says to cut 50/50. VHT we go 2/3 VHT 1/3 Meth
VHT is $17/gal VP LC7 is $11.26/gal

A lot of racers were complaining to the Gateway crew about the track condition today. I about wrecked twice..

Not trying to hijack this thread but,
Steve, are you talking about day 1 of the NHRA open?
If so, do you think it is a glue problem(brand they use), a track prep problem or the new track surface.

I truely believe it is the traction compound, VP Lane Choice..It takes a lot of prep to make that particular compound work. The only track I know that makes it work great is Benton. When my car started getting squirrly I said something to the guy who brings you to the burnout box. When I came back for Rd 5 I asked him "Did you guys do anything to the track?" He said "No". I was a foot away from the guardrail. It was nasty. Then I had a Performance Improvement Dialog with him and the rest of the staff.

Thanks for the reply. I've only been out 3 or 4 times this year at Gateway and am having traction issues. I will be adjusting the car accordingly.

We put less than 50 runs on our car last year ( our first season). So I am far from any expert on any dragracing issue but we ran better at CID than at Benton. The car is a FED with a 610 hp SBC , combo weight is about 1480. At the CID September Nostalgia race we ran 1.06 60ft at 5.08. In October we went down to Benton with the NQSA and ran T & T Friday and raced Saturday and never made a good pass. We just couldn't hook it up. I walked the track and found a lot of "pops" in the concrete, as I recall the right lane was the worst. I'm curious as to what performance differences you see from one track to the other. With weather being the same at both. Thanks.

I run quite a few tracks in a normal season and one thing I see at the tracks that really work.....they have programs/processes in place that have been around a while. They don't experiement much. When at a new place...I get up early or go the day before and watch the track crew work. You can learn A LOT!!
Some of the best I run in order are: Eddyville, Lyons, Beech Bend, Byron, Cordova
Each track has it's own character and every crew has a different technique. VP has bad rep. and I don't think it works well in varying weather. Tracks are cutting cost, which I understand, but how hard is it to ask you racers if they would rather pay $5 more at th gate...or go to "sub-par" track compound?? The people I have talked to about VP have said you have to spray more often and stay on it. Therefore, to get the same results costs more in the end. The really good tracks have crews that WORK the line & surface. Most just have sweepers around to pick up debris.

Yesterday when it was still raining and we where waiting for it to dry I asked some questions about the VP/VHT argument, and the answer that I was giver is that GMP can get VP for half the cost that they get for VHT; do to the amount of VP that they buy at one time I assume. Also for VP to fully dry and the track to be ready according to what I was told is 8-12 minutes sitting time. Also we just recently got a pig and after spraying it the tracked seemed to be doing pretty good. I didn't hear any complaints yesterday about the track being slick. There was a guy in a blue camaro pro class car that ran back to back 10.10 passes 3 times and than spun coming off the line for his last pass during the finales.

The track yesterday was terrible at times but came around at the end of the night. My last super pro time trial after the rain was bad. Then they glued the track and sent the super stock cars down too soon and almost crashed two in a row in the right lane. We understand that vp is cheaper than vht. Hamburger is cheaprer than steak too. If you have poor traction you will lose racers. If you have good traction you will have more racers.
