Lol Considering it was a gift to you whether you use or not. Not losing money other than tow gas Yeah you might say you earned it. I guess But far from losing money I don't think it was a gift. I believe all the racers entry fee in the points program would be used to defer the lost revenue Gateway will experience from allowing me to race for free. If I didn't earn it, why did I receive it and not someone else? If I don't attend I would not lose money out of my pocket but wouldn't I be losing out on any potential money I may win that day? Everything you got was given , nothing said if you do this you receive this or that ! So to say you earned it is not correct What you earned was bragging rights that this year you was the best that was there in the class you ran in Anything else was a gift Next year you get to uphold the crown til someone takes that position away from you

It was said win points get jacket, trophy and prizes. Those prizes were not set in stone however anything I receive I earned. tr.v. earned, earn·ing, earns
To acquire or deserve as a result of effort or action: She earned a reputation as a hard worker.
I will acquire my prizes as a result of my action. Therefore I will have earned them.
Gift: something bestowed or acquired without any particular effort by the recipient or without its being earned:
If it is a gift and I didn't earn it then why was I selected to receive it and not you?

Damn I am lucky. The year I happen to be first in points is the year I'm randomly selected to receive the same gifts the points champions in years past received.

I think you will receive 3 more " gifts " next year then your predecessor Mr Foley received during his term in 2015 , so you are possibly the luckiest gold card carrying charter member since the resurrection of gateway in 2012

That of course is if you choose to utilize your "gift card" at every points event for 2016 ? Or you can transfer you gift to Dennis mopar for 50 cents on the dollar if you are not able to attend a particular event ? Then everyone is happy

If a hockey team wins the Stanley Cup was it a gift , no it was earned ! A pay check is earned , welfare is given ! Anything really worth having is earned ! Earning some thing comes with a sense of pride , satisfaction and self respect . In a world of participation trophies people ma have a tendency to forget such principles . It's not like Gateway Motorsports Park was the first to give a gold card , I know G.I.R. also gave the points champions a gold card , I don't know about the S.L.I.R. days . I may be wrong about this but it seems to me that Gateway might be one of the harder tracks to win a championship at due to the large area they draw from , seems like a lot of good racers play at Gateway , the competition seems pretty stiff , I know when I'm at other tracks and a group of Gateway racers are there it seems like one of them leaves with the money , but then I guess those tracks just wanted to give those guys a gift .

Your confused Was it said you recieve a gold card if you win the championship? No! But they did say jacket trophy other things not mention So it's a gift that unless stated its a gift Be glad you got it You earned points for you ability to win rounds You won a championship because you accumulated more points than anyone else That's what you earned You earned the respect of other racers And earned the right to be one everyone aims at next year

Doesn't matter if they done last hundred years The last 4 never said announced as part of what you earned or what you win as part of the championship run Period So it's a gift ! That's it Just as it's been no one knows what your running for in points at end of the year. Just the fact you pay for the right to be in the battle just to see what's behind the doors number 1-5 Like anything else assumption is always great if you can count it Everyone just assumes you get a gold card it's not promises no print it's part of the deal when you sign up for points

What prizes I receive or do not receive is irrelevant to the debate. The debate is whether the prizes received are a gift or earned. It has since been deflected to the new topic of whether or not a gold car was advertised. Back to the original question what ever prizes I receive is with connection of earning the points title. Definition of earn To acquire or deserve as a result of effort or action: I will acquire my prizes as a result of my action. Therefore I will have earned them. Gift: something bestowed or acquired without any particular effort by the recipient or without its being earned: If someone with a lower total was given the gold car then that would be a gift as they did not earn them based on the points system. This is pretty straight forward and anyone with a general understanding of the English language should see this. As far as whether gold card was advertised or not I can not find the old post but found that it was advertised for efi. Seems unlikely that they would get one but bracket winners wouldn't as they have in every year in the past. However that is a different debate and actually irrelevant to the original point if whether prizes are earned or gifts.
