I just got home from K.C. test n tune today. It was only 48 degrees and very cloudy, with a 10 - 12 mph cross/headwind. I saw a few Pro cars with the front wheels up, but with the extended street tired street bikes, traction was hard to find. Last year at this track I had 1.52 60fts and ran a string of 10.teens @ a buck thirty and change.
On my first run today, I tried to take up right where I left off last year. Leave at 5200rpm, get the clutch all the way out and twist the throttle wide open at the same time within the first 40 feet. It didnt work today Spun hard through first gear even while rolling out and then back in on throttle.
RT .049 60ft 1.87 10.62@129.06
2nd run I left at 4000rpm and rode the clutch to just past the 60ft mark. didnt spin.
RT .059 60ft 1.76 10.52@129.06
3rd run I left at 4800rpm, but still hung onto the clutch to the 60ft cones
RT .010 60ft 1.66 10.32@130.09
After that I loaded up and came home. I was cold and homesick. (wimp)
Launching a streetbike is very tricky. There are so many variables. RPM, clutch release speed, how quickly to roll in the throttle, seating position, forward lean angle, what you do with your feet, and if you do any one of these wrong, you could bog the motor, burn the clutch out, spin, wheelie, drive out of the groove and spin farther down track.
With that being said, let me ask a question. How come people say "DRIVE a drag car" and "RIDE a drag bike"? It seems to me that the bike guys are the ones doing all the DRIVING ;D
Next saturday will be Johnboy's turn to see what he can do with this bike at Gateway. I'll be re-learning how to ride Marks busa
