If the box is allowed to be left in the car their will always be the question of use , their is no way to say beyond any shadow of doubt that the box is not being used in some manner . If they are using a scambler, then using a box will make you lose. Yo will either be way late or red. Not necessarily true. The scrambler system only applies to the first two yellows. If I were running a bottom bulb class I could still use a box. I don't run non-electronics but if I did, and were using a box, here's what I would do: My box generally has 1.080 in it (or close to that) when leaving off of the top bulb. To leave off the bottom bulb, I would pull out the 1.0, leaving the .080 in the box. This .080 is the combination of my reaction and my car's reaction, keeping me from going red. Without this .080 I would most likely red light because I have no special button in the car and my reaction would be too quick. For those of you who try to judge the rhythm of the lights coming down, well....good luck with that. There's a reason they call it reaction time, not rhythm time. Just my thoughts - not intending to get into the argument part of this thread.

I've tried to only look at the third amber and still go red , been told i'm still anticipating the third amber so with out some sort of blinder I don't know how not to see the tree fall .

I always deep stage unless it's an extremely fast car like the dragster and just make sure the third light is " all the way on" then release the button. It's very hard to red light then. I may get treed sometimes but they rarely ever receive a gift from me on the bottom.

Humans react more consistently to a single stimulus then a multiple countdown as Ike Hamma found out in 1980s and started building and selling delay boxes. I believe bob stone was the first to use and hide a delay box around here .he was unbeatable with his fake battery box dragster. I don't think he was cheating just he wanted to keep it a secret .

It has been rumored there was a racer that used his own design, early, primitive 'delay device' as far back as the late 70's/early 80's. Had it hidden in the console of a door car. Being an electrician probably helped. They were still using 5-amber trees back then.

Without a doubt there is always going to be those who cheat and will go to great lengths to do so. I personally feel we do a good job of deterring and watching for any kind of foul play. There very well could of been someone cheating at CCD this past weekend in some form or shape, but I will put my reputation that in the case being discussed is not true to include the extra names being thrown around. We are a very small track pulling from a very small populous and allowing racers to double/triple class is essential in keeping us open, car counts up as they are this year which is allowing for us to guarantee win money like we have ($800 S/P, $800 Pro & $300 Sportsman).
Again I'm sorry for the language I used and just took the attack personally and let it get the best of me.

I wonder if this is true of all people including those who train to keep rythm, say, like a drummer?

I know that it is possible because I heard a story about a bottom bulb division champion from the 1980s that used the rythm and really didn't need to see the bottom bulb .

I don't see the bottom bulb in my mustang. However I would do much better off the flash if that was possible.

The old Slowmotion Cutlass left on the bottom of the 2nd bulb. If I saw the 3rd, I was way late.

Yes Dennis that car scared me back in the day when the tree wasn't blinded I would watch your car start moving on the second yellow and it wasn't red I knew I better try chop the tree down or I would be toast.

I called and was told that I could leave my box in the car but that I must zero out the box. It would have been lit but no numbers in it for delay. Guess In my years I understand the difference between "lit" and actually working.

There is no cheating going on at CCD. None of the regulars leave a box hooked up in their car. This was the motion race and there were some once a year racers at CCD. To grant someone some leeway with leaving a box in their car is perfectly ok. The regular racers in that class would be quick to point out something. Bottom line, don't let this discussion keep any of you from coming to CCD. It is all legit.
