Well there have been electric cars since back in the 70s no one wanted them then , they still don't want them,! Yes they will sell a few, but the deman will always be low. People want to go, and go fast and in style, with the decent fuel economy we see now, there are full size trucks getting close to 20 + mpg, and most cars over the 25 range, the biggest deal seams to be just the price of fuel! everyone wants it below the 3 range, and actually in the 2.50 range ! The price of cars and trucks has no one really complained about for years, , It seams that it always the price of fuel, electric that gets everyone worked up! I just do not believe that the goverment should be giving money to companies to build, other than the tax break for certain amount of years till it get established buisiness going,! But that's a polictical ball game with no winners

Mr. Richardson have you driven the new Chevrolet Volt?? I have and I was presently surprised. Have a freind that has one and has a litlle over 3000 miles on it and get ready here is the kicker...has used a total of 4.9 gallons of gas in those 3000 miles. The car will burn the front tires off it and set your butt back in seat.

I like the theory of the Volt and would be interested in one but I think they are overpriced.

Totally agree Dennis. But if you get the kind of fuel economy he has then it was worth the price.

sg3526,, Yes I have as a matter of fact! , A friend of mine ,(who happens to be rich) bought a new one,, hasn't caught fire yet,, he is waiting for it to do so!! They have come long way with electric, but the price of them and the replacement of the batteries make them basicaly unattractive for the average worker!

THAT WAS AFTER AN ACCIDENT SIDE IMPACT AND SITTING FOR DAYS!!!!. THEY DID NOT DISCONNECT BATTERY PER RECOMMENDATIONS TRY THAT WITH YOUR GAS TANK. IT MAY EXPLODE INSTANTLY.

The idea of an extended range EV is brilliant. Once they work out some of the finer points and see how the durability measures up I'm sure they will become more appealing to the public.
Hybrids, in my opinion, are ridiculous. I would not want one of those at any cost.
Remember when nobody wanted EFI? Now you can't buy a gas powered car without it. Most all diesel engines are EFI now as well.

A friend of mine, who is a precision acrobatic pilot, owns a Tesla. He said the torque is amazing. It is instantaneous.
Motor Trend liked it too.
Tesla Model S: Motor Trend's 2013 Car of the Year — Article
For the first time since anyone can remember, this year’s winner was a unanimous choice. Not a single judge had any doubts about the 2013 Motor Trend Car of the Year.
I think they run about $100k.

A lot of people who have electric cars go on and on about fuel mileage and how eco friendly they are. But if you notice they will never tell you what happened to their electric bill from pluging them at night. And they will never admit that the electricity could have and most likely came from a COAL fired power plant. And while coal power plants have come a long way since the old days. They still are not the most eco friendly machines. I have nothing against coal. A bunch of my friends and customers would be out of a job without it so I say keep mining and keep burning it. But the eco idiots with electric cars just drive me nuts when they talk about eco friendly and how much gas they are saving but wont mention that that electricity came from somewhere. And other than Ed Bagley Jr (famous actor for those who don't know the name) I don't know of anyone charging one off of solar. Especially around here.

I have 3 customers with Chevy Volts. They are averaging 175-245 mpg. There electric bills went up about 8 dollars a month. To be honest if it went up $50 a month they'd be way ahead.

I drive about 350 miles a week back and forth to work. I get around 18 MPG. 350x4 weeks= 1400 miles. 1400/18= 77.77 or 78 Gallons of gas. I paid $3.55 last night for regular(welcome to IL). 78x3.55= $276.90 a month.
You can pick up a used Volt for under $25,000.
If you put $5000 down or trade, $20,000 at 3% for 5 years is $359.
I could have a newer low mileage car for $83 a month.
My Jeep is worth the same as used Volt. So if I traded even up for a Volt, I'd keep my car payment the same and save about $300 a month in gas assuming I run most of the time on battery.
