We may have some lurkers out there that are interested in racing. How about some opinions of the seasoned racers on here. If you were going to start racing on a budget, what vehicle sould you choose?
Of course we know almost anybody could start with their daily driver.
Here's my pics-
Sportsman (street)- I'm not a Ford guy but I'd have to say Mustang simply for the amount of aftermarket parts available. You can find an older one reasonably cheap and race it stock or easily modify it to be as wild as you want.
Pro- That's a tough one. You could get the Mustang to run fast enough for pro or I might look into an 80's GM product such as a Cutlass or Monte Carlo. Maybe an old Super Pro car.
Super Pro- Buy used. You can't build a car for what a used one sells for. I chose an altered because I like the car, It's open cockpit, It's somewhat light and cheap to go fast. I looked into dragsters but depending on the car and the way your trailer is set up, you can't load and unload by yourself.
Bike- Any bike will get you down the track. A 600cc sportbike will get the job done. I think the most bang for the buck is a 'busa. The older ones have came way down in price. There is a good aftermarket for them.

A person can get down the track pretty cheap. there are cars out there may not be pretty but will get into the pro ranks for under 3 grand. Always look for the lighter cars as well , less weight to pull down the track Old vegas with small block was ideal back in the day but are hard to find now. I think the best car out there is a buick grand national or T-type turbo cars, run fast stock few upgrades and the fly , and can drive anywhere!! As for the super-pro, yep ,buy used ride, you can buy cheap than you can build, the down fall is the car was made for someone else ,not you, so some upgrades may be required or needed to fit you person or a different set up.
