How do you break yourself from doing dumb things at the track? In 2006 when I started racing my cbr900rr at Gateway, I would sometimes go way Red on the tree, like -.050 or worse. I would get mad at myself, but would still do it a couple times a month. I finally figured out a way to stop. I told Jeremy every time I'm -.020 or worse that he should punch me in the stomach. I got punched (Hard, left bruises) about 5 times that year and it worked! Im still red once in while, but not often, and never waayyy red. My new dumb thing is, I fan the button on my airshifter instead of pushing it in firmly, and that causes me to miss a gear. It happens in the 1-2 shift because neutral is between those two gears and when I lightly tap (or fan) the button, it just barely nudges the shifter just enough to go to neutral instead of firmly into 2nd Saturday at kcir I lost 2nd round by missing 2nd gear after tree'ing the piss out of my opponent. My day was done, and he went on to win the event Sunday I was on a mission! I paired up with that same guy 1st round and smacked him on the tree again, and firmly pushed the shift button every time and took him out! I had the reaction time advantage every round on sunday (5 rounds) and made sure I PUSHED the button instead of quickly tapping it and came home with the big trophy and the check! My question is... Should I have Jeremy punch me in the stomach every time I miss a shift?? I think that would help me remember to PUSH the button, not Tap it ;D

Congratulations on the win Denny! You need to stop beating yourself up. You are a great racer and just relax and you will always do great. Janie

With the threat of being punched looming, Denny did not miss a shift this last weekend!

that was 1/8 mile (less shifting) and only made 3 pass'es. The real test will be this weekend (15th & 16th) two days of 1/4 mile racing at KCIR If anybody else on this fourm is going to be at kcir this weekend, listen when the bikes race and if you hear a missed shift hurry over to our pit spot and watch me get slugged!
