i have one of his carbs and was told it was set to be turned sideways, , if i was to turn it straight i would most likley have to rejet? as it changes the signel that the carb get from the intake,?? and it does get away from fuel slosh, with alcohol i would think the amount of fuel used that would be a great thing?

so what your saying it will need rejetting, but is there any performance benifits,i run e-85 which is just about the same as a alky carb

I wouldn't think a square bore 4 barrel would be any different straight or sideways. I run my carb backwards on my dragster with the primaries in the rear and secondaries in the front. Proper set up is a must.

I think the reason for mounting a 5130 alcohol carbs sideways is to help keep fuel from sloshing out of the vent tubes -- I don't know how the vent tubes are placed on a dominator...

I think the theory is that, with the correct floats, there is less chance of unconvering the secondary jets (or primary jets in W333's case). This is especially important with alcohol carbs because of the volume of fuel used and depending on how they are built as some have holes drilled above the jet.

i have seen carb 1 on here, but he has yet to comment on the idae of sideways vs standard mounting, ,, i know also , its a matter of certain types of spacer combos together that work best sometime too

I have a Ken Jones alky Dominator that he told me to run sideways. I ran it like that for about 3 seasons then I added a Primer Plus system and it sat too high to mount it sideways so I turned it straight. It slowed down and was starving for fuel. I had to put jet extensions on it and it was almost back to where it was before turning it. I think it would et the same without the Primer Plus spacer on it. I think the extra spacer height killed a few hundredths.

i think (he we go) that every combo being so diffrent, it may be hard to tell if there is a pickup, , on some combos, yes, other, might run the same but idle control maybe better because it does change the 'signal' , iam still waiting for ken to come on and address this , as he sets alot of them up this way, and he runs alot of carbs diffrent ways and on diffrent combos, so he would be the one who knows fo sure,

rich saywer always did alot of 'testing' with plates , and such him mand ken jones talk alot , still do,, i know that if there was an advandage rich had it and ran it, he ran 2 styles of plates phnolic, on both 1 was a 4 hole that he made, as well as a open phenolic, that he also made, played with it sideways, and normal, he wouldnt say which was better,, but he always ran sideways??, but being he ran jones carbs , them 2 would play together and riches stuff always flew, kinda like dan smiths,, running fast with smaller than the norm
