Riders sidelined with injuries or disabilities can have a new opportunity to hit the road, thanks to the Mobility Conquest wheelchair accessible motorcycle.
The chariot-style cycle made its debut to the National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association (NMEDA) conference in February, and the company has been adding dealers – mostly retailers who cater to the disabled – ever since.
Two models were on display at the show, with one available for parking lot test drives. Kevin Lowry of Mobility Works in San Jose, Calif., was among those testing the Mobility Conquest. He had not been on a motorcycle in more than 34 years after a motorcycle accident at the age of 19 left him paraplegic. Lowry broke his back in a flat track racing accident in which another motorcyclist ran over him. The last street bike that Lowry had ridden was in 1976. The closest he had been to riding was when he strapped his feet to the pedals of an ATV with a bungee cord.
The company has dealers in several states, including Lowry’s San Jose store and one in Los Angeles; plus retailers in or around Beltsville, Md.; Chicago, Denver, Louisville, Marietta, Ga.; New York and Tampa.
