I struggle bad at night at gateway. On the recent trip to the sfg Martin race it was lighted like at Montgomery’s million and I only missed it once in 11 hits . RT didn’t change from sun to cloudy to dusk or full dark .

seems something has changed at gateway, either someone put brighter bulbs in the stage and prestage or only half the lights are on trackside Danny is exactly correct, it's like looking at a black hole , and then you're blinded by the stage bulbs

Or is it like the one guy was saying bragging on his son and all of his night wins due to his youth?

It was dark to me . Tree was fine, down track got dark at finish line , Looked at lights down track I counted10 lights that wasn't on , one pole only had 1 light on . Saving electric bill

I can only speak for myself, but for me something changed there at Gateway about 3-4 years ago. Until then, I was pretty normal as I would slow around 10-15 at night. Whatever changed 3 years ago (me or the tree at the track) I all of sudden changed to 30-40 slow at night and lost any consistency. That's a big change. You guys will laugh, but I have seen 3 different eye doctors since this assuming it was my eyesight (which some of it could be) and I just continued to struggle. This did not matter if I was going off top or bottom bulb either. I did notice that I was not changing as much at other tracks I went too near as much as I was at Gateway. Last year I started to experiment with different glasses at night and it was helping, but the key was figuring out when to put them on which will change through the year. This year I purchased a clear and yellow amber shield for my new helmet and use the clear during the day and make the switch to the yellow amber at night and it has been a savior for me as I am now not changing much at all, but the consistency has been there and it has all showed in my results. Not saying this will work for all, but I know several others having success with this too.

Yes I’m as much as .060 slow at night there and like you say not near as consistent. I hate to change things from day to night but I will have to try something. So amber glasses here I come

And if you say it’s on the bottom yellow also. Then fuming the stage bulb will not help

I’m the same day and night there. Gateway is one of the most well lit tracks. Benton I’m a touch slower at night

Yes, I agree it is like looking into a dark hole. The stage and prestage bulbs being extra bright doesn't help either. To me the top bulb is very hard to see at night until it comes on. This causes my eyes to want to wander and not focus on the target. Therefore the top bulb coming on can come as a surprise which is an instant bad light. Don't have the problem during the day. ALso, last time I raced at Indy at night they had the tree lit up with a flood light or something. No problem seeing the top bulb there at night. Benton is slightly worse than gateway but not much.
At first I figured a lot of it has to do with us getting older and our eyesight isn't as good. But I remember Sikeston many years ago had a huge black board behind the tree and I didn't like it back then and I was much younger then as I haven't been to Sikeston for I think 18 years
