I hear you. Gateway is only 40 minutes for me and is a great facility.
There are several other tracks that are a much better facility than GW. CCD and I57 prep their track every time, they stick to a schedule and they want the racers there. That is their main goal is to get racers there. Can't say that for GW.
The facility itself can't be beat. All pits are paved. The shut down is super long and smooth. Always safety and ambulance on standbye. It's a great place to race.
I'm frustrated like others though. The schedule sucked from the beginning and somehow got worse.

The schedule changes don't bother me because they are still on the weekends . You can't make everyone happy.

Jason great your a homebody right now .But many have family vacations and also look forward to racing other tracks and some bigger money races that Gateway seems not to grasp . Gateway could have raced Sat at a later time like we did a while back . So CCD has a big pro $2000.00 I believe . Like I've said I have prior commitments for this weekend because of GMP schedule that I went off of this year .

That is their main goal is to get racers there. Can't say that for GW. I agree that those tracks want the racers there, but those facilities don't compare to Gateway's facility and I think that's what Jim was talking about, especially CCD. Its a neat old track, but very old and pits are not the best and they have the largest rollout in the history of dragracing. I57 has a nice new track, but there pits are still not the greatest. I don't like the schedule changes either, but I dislike the 2 hour drive at 1:00 in the morning when going elsewhere. Its nice to have a track 25 minutes from home that pays decent compared to other tracks. So what you're saying Clay is you would support (eating once a week) a restaurant that had disgusting food and terrible service but a nice atmosphere just because it is close to your home? Wow, I for one would rather drive to another town to a so so atmosphere and get good food and service. But that is the difference in people. Some what quantity and other want quality.

I think they both have fine food (payout and programs), one has better service but is 2 hours farther away plus starts later. I think what he is saying is he can have the same food cheaper and get home before 3 am. He has to give up a little in service but is willing to do so for the other positives. Don't get me wrong I love the other restaurant but it does come with some drawbacks.
Of course I pretty much go most of the restaurants around so I feel I can make a non biased judgement on them. Others I don't see at the other restaurants that often. There was back to back weeks this year that one I was at MoKan one weekend and the next Bonne Terre. Those tracks are almost 300 miles apart. One is 250 miles from my house and the other is 130. I dine out at multiple places. Just this year I have been to MoKan Dragway, Ozark Raceway, Gateway Motorsports Park, Bonne Terre dragstrip, Memphis International Raceway, Central Illinois dragway, Lyons raceway Park and my favorite of BeechBend Raceway Park.

First off this is not restaurants we are talking about . do you get 4mpg when you go out to eat ? Do you spend an hour unloading your stuff at tge restaurant when you get there then spend an hour reloading when you leave in the mud and grass ? Or risk your life because the buffet table is shorter than the one at the big nice restaurant?

You can't compare a facility/operation the size of gateway to any other in the area. Their CODB is tremendous to say the least. Every minute the track is not making money it's costing money. Be glad it's open and they are willing to do what they do. It's a business. They have to make money to sustain operations.

Gateway is not the only track that has rescheduled points races this season that were rained out. I just saw the other day where Lyons added 2 points races in August unscheduled for races they lost earlier this season. That is one of the best ran tracks you can ask for. It is never possible for a track to make everyone happy. In the past I have missed out on the opportunity to win a championship twice because the final night was rained out and not rescheduled and I was sitting in a good position to win. I would have gave anything for the track to have make up races then. Now on the other side of that fence, I would be ready to kill someone if I was the leader in points, the last night was canceled, and then rescheduled on a date I could not be there. If everyone that has a chance to win the championship can be there for this make up date then all is well for me. I am completely out of contention and have been for a while, so this make up race means nothing to me except another day of racing and I do love to watch and see how things unfold for all those in the championship race. I will add, that I have won a few track championships and I would not have wanted to win any of them sitting at home and I don't think there is any of the points leaders this year that would have wanted to win at home either!
