We went camping this weekend at a family reunion. My wife wanted to learn to tow the camper so she was driving. She had the cruise set. The engine suddenly revved high. I didn't feel it downshift. She reacted quickly and tapped the brakes to kick off the cruise. When she did, it died. She said she lost all the gauges and everything on the dash. We coasted off the side of the road.
It would try to start but as soon as you released the key it would die. The battery seemed to go dead soon. We were cranking on it and had the flashers going on the truck and trailer.
My dad loaded his pickup on the rollback and we switched vehicles on the side of the road. When he got back to the shop he said it started with a jump box and it ran but really rough.

She was worried she would get the blame. lol She handled it like a pro. She didn't freak out. She just eased it off the side of the road.

Corroded auxiliary ground wire for the PCM (computer)? This has happened to me on more than one occasion with my '02 Silverado. Makes you think you have a bad fuel pump.
Cleaned the connection up, put some di-electric grease on it, started it and after it re-learned things, ran just like before.
Just a thought, Dennis.

So far nothing obvious. It went to a dealer. Thanks p518, I'll keep that in mind.

Dealer said it's the alternator. They said it will charge at an idle but not at high rpm. We replaced it so far so good. It seems like there might be another problem. When it died she said the gauges were fine and there was no warning lights.

General Motors junk I'm sure. Lol. Every since the wife bought the biggest disappointment to hit the road " 2011 4cly Equinox " it has had everything under the sun changed on it. Including the engine. I will only by a ford or Nissan. I really love how they claim 36mpg then in the first month it drops to 22mpg and stays there. But hey who will slap their wrist? The same government who bailed them out? Don't think so.

Try running a Nissan in that dragster. Maybe the wrong tech is looking at it. Sold many many Equinox and no unhappy customers here

If you are referring to the Equinox, Dennis, I agree. My Wife has driven two and really likes them. We had the V-6 in the '07, but opted for the 4 in the'12. It's plenty peppy with the 6 speed automatic. It gets real good mileage on a highway trip, but the city-only driving is not very good at all. Maybe 18 to 19 if we are lucky. Was always surprised about that.

Ask your service department about the oil burning Pistons in the 2011 and older or the cam servos that retard without warning and shut the car off under acceleration. Or the batteries that explode from the factory and take out the ECU. Or the best is the PCV valve that freezes up in the winter and pushes the rear main seal out. It sounds like it is ready to blow up from the factory. Next time your in a drive thru with one turn off the radio and listen to that POS .sound it makes. Yes 18 MPG in the city is sad when they claim double that for the interstate. And I have takes to two different gm techs from a jack schmit in Alton and a different gm tech that races and they both say this is a common problem the one in Alton say 20 echo tech motor failed just last winter with the issue my wife had. Kevin I know u work for GM but a 4cyl in that heavy of a vehicle was stupid. That's why it's not an option anymore.

Your mistaken it is still available and that we sell 4 to 1 more 4 cyl than 6 cyl Yes you are correct about that. I was mis informed. But can you explain the other points or should I post the recipes from all the work that has been preformed in the last 4 years since it rolled of the assembly line? And last time I checked General Motors didn't make one single piece on my dragster? Dart and brodix did. Just like ford didn't make the 9" rearend in your racecar . Mark Williams just used fords design
