A Few Notes for Racers Attending the JEGS Summer Door Car Shootout at I-57 Dragstrip
For those of you planning to attend the 4th annual JEGS Summer Door Car Shootout at I-57 Dragstrip this weekend, thanks for your interest in the event! We’ve tried to put together a great race for door car competitors. We’re guaranteeing a huge purse, we’ve got over $25,000 in additional prizes to give away, and we’re going to have a great time throughout the weekend! In an effort to make your trip to I-57 a little smoother, here are a few notes on the facility, race procedure, and lodging accommodations for the weekend.
Directions & GPS:
On the event flyer, we’ve included detailed directions to get to I-57 Dragstrip from any direction. USE THEM! In our first season, we included a GPS address on the flyer and it brought several racers into the facility the back way (down a gravel road). So, if you’ve got an old flyer or an address, DON’T plug it into GPS. The track is easy to find, just follow the directions on the flyer and follow the signs when you get close!
Early Arrivals:
The track will be open on Thursday for early bird parking. We’ll have an official onhand to park entrants until roughly 9:00 PM. The gates will remain open all night; we’ll have a holding lot on site for late arrivals.
Friday Schedule (July 25):
Parking & Begin tech card sales: 9:00 AM
Open Time Trials: 1:00-3:00
1 final time trial session: 3:00
1st round Auto Meter Pregame: 5:00
Gates will be open all night for parking
There will be no fee to park Friday night if you purchase a tech card and/or spectator pass for the weekend (whether you enter the Friday Pregame or not).
Spectator passes for Friday-only are $15 (there is no additional charge for Friday spectators who purchase a weekend pass for $25).
Entry Fees:
Friday Pregame, Main event and Quick 16 entry fees can be paid via cash, check, or credit card. If you wish to enter the Ohlins King of Illinois Hi-Roller event, remember that event is cash only (cash in, cash out: 100% payback).
Parking:
We have gone to great lengths to create an accurate parking diagram and mark the pit area. We anticipate that this 4th annual event will bring our biggest crowd yet. In an effort to maximize the limited pit area we have available at I-57 Dragstrip, we’re going to personally park every entrant. We realize this is a slight inconvenience, and we apologize, but in the end we feel it’s for the best. Please work with us throughout the parking process.
I-57 Dragstrip does have reserved parking spots for weekly competitors, and we will be honoring the reserved spots this weekend. Approximately 40 of the reserved spot holders will be attending. We’ll also have a handful of spots reserved for race sponsors and vendors. Any other spots will be open to anyone, and all reserved spots will be clearly marked.
Fuel, Tires, & Other At-Track Needs:
We will have 5-gallon pails of Sunoco 110 Octane Raing Fuel available for $50 each, and Methanol ($4.00/gallon) available in the fuel barn throughout the event. 54-gallon drums of Methanol can also be ordered in advance. If you need a drum, contact Scott Bailey at: 618-513-0165.
Ronnie Maggart of Maggart’s Automotive/Hoosier Tire will be on site this weekend. Ronnie will have several Hoosier Tires in his trailer, and will always service, mount, and balance tires regardless of brand. To place an order with Ronnie or setup an appointment, give him a call at: 615-683-3724.
BTE, Holley Performance Products, Nitroplate, 2 Boyz Powder Coating, and Paint Chip Designs will have their racer support trailers on site near the staging lanes, stocked with tons of vital products if anyone has any issues. Representatives from several event sponsors including Tinnin Drag Race Suspensions, Mark Sullens E85 Carburetors, Lucas Oil, and DragstersForSale.com will be onhand to assist racers as well. Luke Bogacki’s Racing RV’s coach will be on display and available for walk-through tours throughout the event. The LBM trailer will also be on the midway with a load of TIBR merchandise, as well as APD, K&N, Flo-Fast, and AirTek products. Track and event t-shirts and apparel will be available in the concession stand.
Meziere Quick 16:
Saturday night’s Meziere Quick 16 is a separate, stand-alone bonus race for racers entered in the main event. First round of the Quick 16 will not run until the Saturday main event has been completed. Racers competing in the Meziere Quick 16 will race in the main event along with all the other entrants. Then, once that event is over and we crown a champion, we’ll contest the Meziere Quick 16 bonus event Saturday night.
There will be two qualifying sessions for the Meziere Quick 16. They will take place Saturday morning following each of the 2 main event time trials. Quick 16 entrants get 2 time runs total (like all other main event entrants). If you’re entered in the Quick 16, DO NOT make time trials with your run color; wait for the Quick 16 call.
Overnight Camping:
Racers are welcome to stay at the track overnight. Those of you staying at home or in motels are welcomed (and encouraged) to leave your trailers at the track overnight.
Lodging:
There is a comprehensive listing of area motels on the event flyer. If you need any additional information or have any questions, we’ll be happy to help. Just give us a call.
We can’t wait to welcome everyone to I-57 Dragstrip! If you have any questions that weren’t answered above, check out www.I57sdcs.com or call me (256-679-8328) or Scott (618-513-0165). Bring your “A” game to the Biggest Little Door Car race in the Midwest and come prepared to have a great time! See you here!
