I see. Look at the smokey and the bandit trans-am.....that seems nostalgic to me.
But I was born in 74 too...

If a car has the right wheels, hood scoop, and attituide(?), very few tech inspectors will object if it has had a full cage installed in place of the 4 point bar, sfi shields on the flex plate and tranny, it should fit the period correct requirement I remember Bob Sloan running Dick Lahays(?) old rear engine car in the nostalgia quick series, so some old rear engine rails are legal.
If someone has an original, numbers matching, Yenko, Baldwin, Motion, ZL1, or one of the Grand Spaulding Dodges, they should just display them. As far as I'm concerned a race car was built to race.
The track is missing a lot people with their advertising. I have yet to hear an add for C I D on a Springfield radio station. I did hear add on WGLO out of Peoria, but not here.
Nostalgia cars should have a good ignition box and line lock as the only electronics. I will go along with a rev limiter. line locks first appeared in the late 60's or early 70's. No two steps or transbrakes, Foot brake launches only.
if you go to a car show with an old school gasser like mine, it will draw a lot of attention. The old crowd will come by and you will hear "Been a long time since I've seen one of these" and the younger crowd will ask you what is it? Why is the front end so high?
The rules for the nostalgia race is the only complaint I have about the way Jeff and His wife are running the track.

They will have trouble drawing cars in the 7.49 & quicker eliminator class since most cars that run that class have electronics. Zero out the delay box and put a sticker or bag over it should suffice. Besides, its pro-tree anyway.

92ga, I know I ran it once (maybe first year for it??) and it was a mad house. I could hardly get the car backed out and it took forever to get back to my trailer. Place was packed!! Jeff told me Friday they are or have added a bracket race on the Sunday following the Nostalgia race. That will be when all cars going to Indy will be tech'd for Indy also. You have the black Firebird/Trans-am correct? If so you did well Sat. Congrats. Yea, we have the black firebird. My son does the driving and I do the wrenching. Thanks, I think he does a pretty good job as we don't get out too much anymore. Conflicting schedules, or rain. We probably won't get back out till after the Indy race. used to have a 92 Grand Am and never changed my user.

Charlie, The rules for nostalgia have always allowed Trans Brakes because Trans Brakes are considered a Performance Item, not a Drivers aid. If you really want to go back... most of the cars in the 60's were clutch cars, today most all are automatics. Also Rev limiters were around back in the old days. Some safety items might get overlooked sometimes like an outdated trans shield, etc if the car isn't all that fast or it don't appear to be an real issue but if a car is running some serious numbers, Safety needs to be observed.
Sometimes a track owner will elect to let racers keep the Delay Box in the car but like Steve said zero it out and cover it and seal it with a decal so it can't be messed with and use a Pro Tree.
As far as Bob Sloan (RIP) running his dragster at a Nostalgia event, it shouldn't of happened no matter who's old car it was supposed to be unless Bob would of restored the car back to a Top Fuel car with Dick's paint and lettering.
If a Nostalgia Event is put on right and is promoted it'll make the track a lot of money to help keep the track in business... It'll help overcome weekends that didn't make much money if any, it may help the tracks economy to make up for a few rainouts.
The Spectators want to see the older race cars and see the cars of the past, that's why Nostalgia Events have good Spectator counts and generally large car counts. There are a lot of Nostalgia Racers that don't bracket race, they just attend Nostalgia Events... Yes you may see them show up at a bracket race to test & tune but it's rare to see them in the lanes for first round. Bracket Cars are great but you don't get big crowds showing up to watch a Bracket Race.

Totally agree with you here. There was a discussion a while back on DRR about how bad NHRA events are and Jok from trailer toad mentioned his home track had one of these races. I thin it was Cedar Falls. Anyway.....he said it was packed and the show was so much better than NHRA has. People can relate to tha shape of teh funny cars and the history.
No need for the circus of national event cr*p.

Problem Child, I have to correct you, Bob Sloan never raced the Dick Lahay dragester we owned in the nostalgia quick series. We had the car there for a quick 8 they had at the same time as the nostalgia quick series. Mrs. Bob Sloan

Zero out the delay box and put a sticker or bag over it should suffice. Besides, its pro-tree anyway. Are you sure it's pro tree Steve? I haven't seen any rules for it yet. As far as 7.49 and quicker goes I would guess about 85% or so of the Pro cars are faster than that. A S/pro car can use the crossover function on a handicapped pro tree type race so I can see where that is an advantage for a box car as long as he is the faster car. For just one event like this I can see possibly allowing them to remain in the car with a seal of some kind on them, not covered up, so anyone can still see that it is zeroed out. I would like to see a complete set of rules for this race. It always helps to know for sure what is going on before you hit the track.

Rick I havent ran the event for 2 years, but I thought it was a pro-tree race. Whether it was .400 or .500 I can remember. It would be nice to see the rules since the event is around the corner.

Yea, I didn't run it last year either. I didn't know the rules going in so I went elsewhere to race that weekend. If I get a chance I will ask tomorrow night and report back if I find anything out.

just looked at the web site and nothing yet. Last year I tried to run the spring event, but the rules were changed during the drivers meeting.

I talked to Jeff last night. The two bracket classes will be a full tree.

If their going to run a full tree at a nostalgia event, there should be no crosstalk. If there are no electronics then everyone is on the same playing field, full or pro tree.
