Have you guys seen what Charleston uses to put rubber down? And it works....a lot better than heavy hard rubber tractor tire.

i think the tractor tire may take the glaze off, but if it was putting down that much rubber wouldnt it be wore all the way out by now?

Well tracks have been running ,dragging old tires for years!! The biggest help would be to scrap, sweep, power wash with soap, re-apply the compound, re-drag ,and treat between classes, I really hate to see the small sprayers used between cars, when all they do is make it slick till a few cars has past, If your going to treat it, re-spray with the sprayer, re-drag it, it doesnt take too long to do that, for some reason these tracks love to make a small narrow path,

Lonnie it's not actually the sidewall thats applying the rubber it's the full edge of the tread area, that area is real thick and heavy and it does lay a good rubber path, when you drag it you can even see the white smoke coming off of it.
It makes no difference if it's old slicks, a tractor tire or even thick rubber mats, as long as you can apply the rubber with some weight to the track surface, then you'll be making progress. If anyone is asshamed their dragging around a tractor tire then they need to do it when your not there.
I'd piss on a spark plug if I thought it would work, besides it don't cost anything.... IT'S FREE. Yea it would be nice to buy the top of the line tractor drag unit like NHRA has but it's not practical for any track to go in that much debt in this economy.
I fully agree with Dennis... Start from scratch, scrape the dead rubber off of the concrete and sweep and clean the track surface with a power washer and soap, then drag the track several laps with rubber then spray at least a full uncut barrell of VHT, (half a barrell in each lane) spray about 60 ft past the finish line to be safe... and go pretty close to wall to wall with the spray. After that drag the rubber about two or three laps in each lane.
That should give you a pretty damn good track that will yeald some good numbers but it also takes some hard work and someone willing to work at it every week to maintain it.
It won't take near as much spray each week once you have a decent base because you can cut your spray 50%... in hotter weather you can cut it even more or make faster passes with the sprayer. If you spray too much too thick the track could get a little slick in the heat of the day. As far as spraying out of a small sprayer, sometimes thats all you'll need to do for a little touch up on the starting line. if you have to clean up oil spots quite often and small leaks then it's a must to give it a touch up once in a while. You can cut the touch up spray in the small sprayer 50/50.
If you have a bigger oil down it's a must to spray a normal coat of VHT in the area where you laid down greese sweep once it's been cleaned up and blown off then it wouldn't hurt to drag the rubber a couple of laps to put the lane back to normal.

Well, got the sweeper home last night. Worked on it today and started by draining old fuel, removing battery, cleaning points and looking it over. Booher donated new battery and cable ends (Thanks Eric). Installed new battery and cable ends, fresh fuel, and fuel filter. Hit the key and it fired up. Adjusted the points and got it to idle. Raised the hopper and tried out the brooms. Everything worked and then a hydraulic hose blew and I had oil everywhere. Can't have that happen on the track so now we have to inspect all hoses and replace the ones that look bad. Hope to have it to the track late next week but we will see. Just wanted to give an update on it.
