From a discussion on Gateway Motorsports Parks forum:
While talking about adding more races to the GMP July schedule below was posted. The forum had started going to why do racers continue to go to GMP with all the issues they've had with traction, payout or lack of payout, entry fee, points system or lack of points system, rules or lack of rules (you get the picture)... Someone then posted the below comment and I didn't want to respond on GMP forum.. I just don't think as a owner its my place to post anything on another race track forum, but I do here. It was posted the smaller 1/8 tracks in Illinois haven't upgraded since the 50-60's and saying today's high horsepower hot rods have outgrown them and they are unpredictable. CCD has been upgraded dramatically in the last year, has been NHRA sanctioned and approved as safe racing facility along with a most recent inspection by NHRA and the Insurance Company. Has been host to JEGS Q32 and invited back in the 2012 year to host again, where some of the highest horsepower Hot Rods run. Has a hand full of regular racers who run 4.0's monthly and few running 4.3's - 4.5's regularly. To say these small NHRA sanctioned tracks haven't been upgraded or been outgrown and unpredictable is inaccurate.
Just my .02
POSTED FROM GMP FORUM: "Let me help you there!
It's a 1/4 mile, Only other 1 is in Joliet state of the art facility! roomy,
And it's close! most with in 30 minutes of just about everyone!
The other tracks are 1/8 miles , and not been upgraded since they where built back in the 50-60s, old gaurd rails which have been proven to be very dangerous, YES WE STILL RACE WITH THEM tho, !! We have basicaly out run those tracks, meaning the speed and the hp we put down is far more than what the track was designed for! making them un-predictable!! ( here comes the beatings)"
