In announcing its motorcycles for the 2011 model year, Yamaha today revealed three new models: the FZ8 supersport, the Stryker cruiser and XT1200 Super Ténéré adventure bike, the last of which is actually a 2012 model. Full information on all models is now available at www.yamaha-motor.com.
Yamaha said the FZ8 is its “first naked with street fighter styling and the performance to match.” Powered by a 779cc liquid-cooled inline four-cylinder engine, the bike will be available in dealerships nationwide beginning in December with a starting MSRP of $8,490. It will come in Raven only.
Returning models or 2011 include the R1, R6, FZ1, FZ6R and the FJR1300A in all-new colors. Returning scooters are the Tmax, Zuma 50, Zuma 125, Vino Classic and C3.
Yamaha said its big off-road news is the introduction of the XT1200 Super Ténéré, a motorcycle with a heritage going back to the famous Paris to Dakar rally. The bike is powered by a DOHC 1200cc parallel twin engine. Its electronics incorporate Yamaha’s YCC-T fly-by-wire technology matched to an all-new traction control system. Three rider-selected modes are available. The Super Tenere features ABS and Unified Brake System (UBS) that work together to help prevent wheel lock during braking.
The Super Ténéré will be available through a Priority Delivery Program at dealerships nationwide beginning in September with customers placing advance deposits of $500 and deliveries beginning in May 2011. The model has a starting MSRP of $13,900 and will be available in blue and Raven.
Off-road returning models include the YZ450F with increased fuel capacity as well as the YZ250F, WR250X, WR250R, TW200, XT250, TT-R 230,TT-R125LE and TT-R110E. The WR450 and WR250Fs are back as 2011 models as well as the two-stroke YZ250, YZ125 and YZ85.
The Stryker mates its chopper-inspired looks with a 1304cc, fuel-injected liquid-cooled V-twin. The seat height is just 26.4 inches. A wide 210-series rear tire and chopper-inspired 21-inch front wheel reinforce the muscular styling. The bike also has steel fenders and a belt drive. Customers will choose between two color schemes with chrome, or opt for a blacked-out package. The Stryker will be available in dealerships nationwide beginning September 2010 with a starting MSRP of $10,990 for the Raven model and $11,240 for Impact Blue or Reddish Copper colors.
