Never pulled mine. For all I know it's the last owners dirty socks packed in there.
The manufacturers say you should pull it at least once every race. You should unpack it after every race. Otherwise it may not deploy properly when needed.

Had to use it at the old MAR. I only have rear brakes and some times my son lifted a little late. The car would not look good sticing out of a round bale

Take it out and repack it with a little baby powder in it... If it ever gets wet take it out at home in the garage and hang dry it .... Learn to use it once in a while.
I've seen quite a few good S/Gas, S/Comp and Bracket cars get messed up bad when they went off the end of a track or were trying to slow down in their own oil when loosing a motor.
Remember once you realize the throttle is stuck or you have no brakes and maybe your able to do something about it, but remember you've covered alot of shut down area that you normally would of been slowing down in. Chutes are not hard to pack if you have a packing string, If you have a chute on the car it must be paid for... but them repairs to your car from going off the end of the track or spinning out in your own oil and hitting the wall can be real costly.

Lost a motor at the old MAR at about 1000' and was skating around in my own water and oil. Car got sideways and I was looking out the drivers window at the starting line, funny thing is everything seemed to slow down inside the car and I thought pull the chute, I did and I watched it hit the ground and start to blossom and then it pulled me straight and kept me from rolling. Best money I ever spent. So now I make a habit of throwing the laundry out at least a few times a year just to make sure it's ok.

I pulled mine once at midstate on my first pass in my old dragster. Went 4.80 @145, next pass, went 4.79 and no laundry and made the turn no problem. This was back in 05 before the " no shutdown" shutdown was extended, so I giggle when people complain about it being too short now.

I would only use one if I jumped out of an airplane, lol, or went over a 150 mph in the 1/4.
