Illinois’ HOG will hold its 2011 rally in Rockford, a first for the city.
Unlike some communities that shun rallies, executives of the Rockford Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, the Clock Tower Resort and Conference Center and Harley Owners Group say the rally could be a bright spot for the local economy, bringing in as much as $600,000 over three days.
The Clock Tower will be the host hotel for the Illinois H.O.G. Rally, which is expected to bring in about 2,000 riders from June 9 to 12, 2011. Leah Whaley, regional manager for the Harley Owners Group, said Illinois boasts about 32,000 H.O.G. members.
“Organizers selected Rockford because of the variety of guided and self-guided rides available throughout northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin, the diverse entertainment and recreation options available and the quality of the hotel facilities,” Mark Stefanic, chairman of the RACVB board, told the Rockford Register Star. “And, of course, we’re the home of Kegel Harley-Davidson, the oldest family-owned Harley dealership.”
This year’s rally is set for June 3 to 5 in O’Fallon.
