A Few Notes for Racers Attending the JEGS Summer Door Car Shootout at I-57 DragstripFor those of you planning to attend the 2nd annual JEGS Summer Door Car Shootout at I-57 Dragstrip this weekend, thanks for your interest in the event! We’ve tried to put together a great race for door car competitors. We’re guaranteeing a huge purse, we’ve got nearly $30,000 in additional prizes, and we’re going to have a great time throughout the weekend! In an effort to make your trip to I-57 a little smoother, here are a few notes on the facility, race procedure, and lodging accommodations for the weekend. Directions & GPS:On the event flyer, we’ve included detailed directions to get to I-57 Dragstrip from any direction. USE THEM! Last season, we included a GPS address on the flyer and it brought several racers into the facility down a gravel road. So, if you’ve got an old flyer or an address, DON’T plug it into GPS. The track is easy to find, just follow the directions on the flyer and follow the signs when you get close! Friday Schedule (July 20):Gates Open for Parking: 12:00 noon Regular Friday Test ‘n’ Tune: 6:00-11:00 pm Holley Racer Appreciation BBQ: 8:00-? APD Quick 16 Qualifying Session #1: 9:00 Gates will be open all night for parking There will be no fee to park Friday night if you purchase a tech card and/or spectator pass for the weekend. If you’d like to test on Friday night, you will have to purchase a tech card for $15. Spectator passes for Friday-only are $10 (there is no additional charge for Friday spectators who purchase a weekend pass for $25). Entry Fees:Main event and Quick 16 entry fees can be paid via cash, check, or credit card. If you wish to enter the Ohlins King of Illinois Hi-Roller event, remember that event is cash only (cash in, cash out: 100% payback). Buy Backs:Buy backs will be available in first round-only of the main events, for $75. Buyback at the front gate and get your prizes from Auto Meter and Lucas Oil at the nearby racer support trailer. First round winners and buy-backs will go directly into second round of competition. Parking:We have gone to great lengths to create an accurate parking diagram and mark the pit area. For the crowd we anticipate, we feel as though organization throughout the parking process will be critical. As such, we’re going to park every entrant. We realize this is a slight inconvenience, and we apologize, but in the end we feel it’s for the best. Please work with us throughout the parking process. I-57 Dragstrip does have reserved parking spots for weekly competitors, and we will be honoring the reserved spots this weekend. Approximately 40 of the reserved spot holders will be attending, so all other spots will be open to anyone. We’ll also have a handful of spots reserved for race sponsors and vendors. All reserved spots will be clearly marked. Fuel, Tires, & Other At-Track Needs:We will have 110 Octane Raing Fuel ($8.50/gallon) and Methanol ($3/gallon) available in the fuel trailer throughout the event. 54-gallon drums of Methanol can also be ordered in advance. If you need a drum, contact Scott Bailey at: 618-513-0165. Ronnie Maggart of Maggart’s Automotive/Hoosier Tire will be on site this weekend. Ronnie will have several Hoosier Tires in his trailer, and will always service, mount, and balance tires regardless of brand. To place an order with Ronnie or setup an appointment, give him a call at: 615-683-3724. BTE and Holley Performance Products will have their racer support trailers on site near the staging lanes, stocked with tons of vital products if anyone has any issues. Representatives from several event sponsors including Mark Sullens E85 Carburetors, DragstersForSale.com, Huntsville Engine & Performance, Dixie Racing Products, and Weldon Racing Pumps will be onhand to assist racers as well. The ThisIsBracketRacing.com trailer will be on the midway with a load of TIBR merchandise. Track and event t-shirts and apparel will be available in the concession stand. Weather:As of now, the weekend forecast looks excellent. We will do everything in our power to run the event to completion July 21-22. If weather conditions make that impossible, we’ll follow these procedures: - In the event of weather issues, the two-day main events will take priority over the bonus races. - If we are unable to complete 2 rounds of main event competition (either day), the event will be postponed to July 28-29. - If we are forced to halt an event in the middle of competition, the purse will be split among the remaining entrants following the last completed round of competition. APD Quick 16:Saturday night’s APD Quick 16 is a separate, stand-alone bonus race for racers entered in the main event. First round of the Quick 16 will not run until the Saturday main event has been completed. Racers competing in the APD Quick 16 will race in the main event along with all the other entrants. Then, once that event is over and we crown a champion, we’ll contest the APD Quick 16 bonus event Saturday night. There will be two qualifying sessions for the APD Quick 16. The first will take place Friday night at 9:00 PM. The second session will take place on Saturday between the two main event time trials (at approximately 11:30). This will count as one of the two main event time trials for Q16 entrants. Between the qualifying session and the two run color time trials, you have your choice of which two runs to make, but Q16 entrants receive a maximum of two runs prior to first round of the main event (like all other main event entrants). Overnight Camping:Racers are welcome to stay at the track overnight. Those of you staying at home or in motels are welcomed (and encouraged) to leave your trailers at the track overnight. Lodging:There is a comprehensive listing of area motels on the event flyer. If you need any additional information or have any questions, we’ll be happy to help. Just give us a call. We can’t wait to welcome everyone to I-57 Dragstrip! Bring your “A” game to the Best Little Door Car race in the Midwest and come prepared to have a great time! See you here!
