In 2012 we collected $20 from racers before rnd 1 on some special races . So I was wondering since payouts are a big issue at gateway who all would be interested in doing a side bet for whoever goes the furthest on a weekly basis ? Each class settle on a dollar amount? Then Gmp and the gorverment are not involved!

I did that in 2014 with sportsman. It lasted about 3/4 of the season until no one wanted to do it. And that was only a $10 side pot

Make it a have to win the race to win the extra. If that doesn't happen roll it to the next race. Might get pretty big. Just need a racer wife or girl friend to keep track probably.

I think side bet would get better participation if was for something like best light or closest to dial in round 1 or 2 that way there would be a mid race get together to compare time slips and tell stories Thats the new guy perspective in golf we have all sorts of side bets, closest to the hole, longest putt it sorta spreads the money around and generates some great stories

I think every race we did side pots in 2014 you had to atleast get to the semi's to get it with the 8-12 people who entered, some raced went to who won before everyone was out

What if 12 people pitch in the pot and no one wins and then the next race a 13th racer wants to get in that racer doesn't have as much money in he pot but is just as likely to win ?

Yes the rollover idea can't work because a lot of people can't make it back the following week. Or the new guy could win the big prize without previous participation . But the points guys could throw in $50 or $100 to who ever has the most points at years end?

When the pot gets up there, more people are likely to enter. Wouldn't bother me any to roll it over. If we did it that is.

No different if non points guy plays spoiler to a points contender . It is totally different don. A non points guy cannot pass me and get the say 3rd place points money. All he can do is win the race purse . I mean I really don't care if it rolls or not because the odds of one of the side bet guys not winning is slim because most people with confidence to win will get in the side bet . Number two most people won't want to hold that kind of money for weeks at a time if there is big break between races.

It's a bit of a pain from what I see. Keep it simple as possible.

We are probably all better off to face the fact that we are not racing for much money when we show up and all will be good!
