I plan to be there for the same reason probrd. As far as the 11am start I'm sure some don't like but some like me that travel do like it as I don't want to drive so late. Just proves not all decisions work for everyone.

Well said Rick. I can race anywhere. All I ask is for a decent program, along with with a clean & safe track. Most tracks you never even speak to the manager or anyone outside of tech and I'm good with that. I do understand peoples feeling on the times and changes. All valid. People who complain about any of the track managers around here need to travel to RT 66 or run a national event. Then you'd see what poor treatment is!! Ron at Byron used to be the king of A$$holes though. He's calmed down in his old age.

I'm not sure what Jeff has done to make you guys mad and I don't want to know. I'm not going jump on the bash Jeff train, but I'm also not going to apologize for his decisions this year so far either. My experience there has been good with Jeff as the track manager. Sure he doesn't ride around like Rod and greet every new racer that comes through the gate and personally thank them but he's always been friendly to me when I see him. He's not as outgoing as Rod and some take that as him not caring about the racers. Rod does a great job making racers feel welcome as has Ron Veach and Dave Wallace before him at CCD. How many other tracks do what Rod does? Not many I have ever been to. Rod has had his growing pains with his racers too the last few years. It looks like he has things turned around there. Jeff has always treated me fairly and has never been rude. I race there most every weekend and they run a smooth program, the rules don't change from week to week, and from what I've seen he treats everyone fairly. I remember one night I questioned the guy running the staging lanes about the bye run at 3 cars. I knew the rule from the way things were run for the last 25 years. Jeff was called over and he stopped the race for about 10 minutes while we looked up the rule. I'm sure he wasn't too happy with me. As it worked out I was wrong and the rule had been changed that year. He could have told me to get in the car and race or go home. Instead he took the time to makes sure things were done right. I appreciated that. I apologized, we raced, and all was good. I know problemchild won't like any manager there unless it's his buddy Bob. That's just the way it's going to be. Some read things into the rules that really aren't there. Some are mad because of the way he's changed the Nostalgia Quick Series this year. I think one of the best things they have done is to go IHRA. Some don't like that. I'm sure he has made you guys mad in one way or the other and that's fine, we will still be friends at the end of the day. I will say there are things that have changed that I don't like or agree with too. But it's not a deal breaker for me. For some it is. Like the 11:00am start time on Saturdays. We will lose a few racers because of that. Heck I don't even like the 1:00pm start time. The reason to run Saturdays was to have a night race to stay out of the heat of the day. But that's not going to change my mind about racing there. I don't understand not racing on Sundays when Saturdays get rained out. But that's not a deal breaker either. I'f I want to race on Sunday I'll go somewhere else to race that week. I'm not very happy about not getting to race yet this year but that has been mostly because of rain outs and a late start on the schedule. All in all I think he's done a good job. It's ok if we don't agree but this has been my experience racing there every weekend. Your mileage may differ. I think everyone is frustrated about not racing yet this year and are looking to blame somebody besides mother nature. Right now it's looking good for this Saturday to get our first race in. Thank God because I really need some seat time before the No Box Nationals next weekend. Very good way to put things Rick. Hey make sure you come hang out with us some next week at Lyons, I believe Friday Paul is going to do a big fish fry.

Been a long time since I bottom bulbed but, I'll tell you what...you don't know how close I have been to bringing in someone to drive my firebird. If we didn't have a points race that weekend and the car had all the bugs worked out (not run yet), I'd do it for sure!! Next year I am going hit em for sure. Maybe Jeremy or Jimmie can help me stash my box.

Rick, when Jeff took over in 13 I went so far as to drive up there and warn both him and his wife to "watch your backs" as there were people there who would do their best to cut their throats. They found out that I was telling the truth. my problems with him started last year when I went up to watch a T n T and there was 2 cafe racers(crotch rockets) running high 6s wearing only a motorcycle jacket, not leather, jeans, boots, gloves and a full helmet. the rules required full leathers for all bikes. I ask him and was told full leathers, why were they out there making passes? was going to give him a chance this year and run at least 3 events, but after what I saw on a T n T, along with hauling all the way up there to learn they had cancelled, after talking to him and being told to come on up, since cell phone calls are free he could have at least called to let me know not to come.
Chad, you are right, all I want is a safe, clean place to race where I feel I get treated the same as everyone else. how does a track win my trust back, I don't know, I just do not know.

Well l never like to see rules bend or even badly bent Rules are set for several reasons just as you state To give everone a far shake on the same track However I have seen just about every kind of infraction possible at any track at any givien race ,, why? Because tracks to not want to turn racers away when they are on the grounds I've been going to havana back when it was a sand dune Some will never let go of the Gebart days even tho they drive the track to near extinction! Yes the track had great races but the dealings nearly killed it ! This year seams to have brought out the bad in everyone in to and including me. , my complete disatifaction of GMP has been well known I'll get over it just as you guys will Now for those who sold cars over this More than likely you was getting out anyways I've been around drag racing a long time I've seen a lot of good racer come in the sport and leave just as fast for what ever reasons. Some good some reasons some they was never commented to drag racing As stated some will get over it and move on Just like me But I will race it's in my blood. All I want to do

I don't know IHRA or their track rules but the NHRA does not require full leathers to run high 6's. I was always told you don't need boots only shoes that cover the ankle.

Motorcycle rules are probably the same as NHRA. All riders must have boots/shoes above the ankle, leather gloves, and a leather jacket. Any rider running quicker than 10.99/6.99 must also have leather pants.
Charlie- I guess the only way they win your trust back is to show up and race and give them a chance.

I am sure the only reason they went with IHRA was it was cheaper not better racing events just cheaper for insurance reasons And why not change??? Yes it was cheaper for them. At the meeting we were shown that we have the EXACT same policy & coverage as before. It costs less because NHRA requires an extra payment above the policy fee from tracks. Now answer me this honestly....what doea NHRA or IHRA do for us wekend bracket racers outside of the costs required to meet the rules and the year end ET finals stuff? Yes, its cheaper for the track but I just paid $75 for a chassis cert and IHRA allows cars down to 6.00 before needing all the gear. Not 6.39. NHRA claims this is to keep insurance down. Did I mention we have the same policy as before?? Membership is cheaper. The SSS year end payout in Memphis is over $250k, and they run several gambler races etc. to make sure everyone gets value at the ET finals. THAT is why we liked it. The racers had a voice. Not everyone likes it but the majority do. And no IHRA is far from perfect.

Does have coverage and assistance programs for racers that are injured on track this may not seam like a lot but they do have a lot of programs they do for racers IHRA will never do That saftey stuff you want to overlook fine! I disagree with some stuff but in reality most of the saftey stuff never i forced nor is it even looked at any track I've been to. So while it maybe a rule as even in IHRA seldom enforced

they changed the leathers rule in 2014 after a racer in his 60s dumped a turboed hondamatic on the big end at the end of the 2013 season. both nhra and ihra only require a leather jacket, boots, leather gloves and full coverage helmet for the slower classes. Rod at ccd said that your old lettermans jacket was legal in nhra.
I don't care if it is nhra or ihra. My car will not run 6.39, and if it does I will slow her down. I go to the track to have fun, so no way I'm going to any big race or even the bracket finals. Been there, had no fun at all.
