I going to take all the electronics out of the altered and go back to what old timers know sorta. The new car has way to much for me to understand or even want to understand. MSD grid system, no more chips?? And a delay box that has more buttons and functions than I care to learn. The only thing it doesn't do is tie your shoes, and a data logger that talks to everything but me. Think I'll get out my old dual point distributor and dwell meter, figure out if I need a 3/4 or full race cam, and sneak my wife's cloths pins to hold the lifters up on the old Y block. and remember much simpler times.

GRID is a sophisticated timing controller. It is intended for cars that have too much power for the tire/car. Not needed for a bracket car usually.

If I'm reading the instructions correctly (while my eyes glaze over) this system replaces our 7AL3 box and sets shift points, burn out RPM, along with timing all which needs to be changed with a lap top. In the altered it was all controld by chips and a micro switch. I know it does WAY more than we need but I guess it will be under utilized, and yes the engine that come out of this car was a carburated blown 632 but his dyno sheets only showed a little 1400hp while our was just a tad shy of 1200 and with the new build hopefully closer to 1300. He ran both Super Comp and Top Dragster. The delay box is a Dedenbear Lightening Plus. Glad my son gets to figure this all out!! At least the Grandson's ride is old school ('51) just need to get the paper work back from NHRA.

didn't mean a little 1400. Should have said a little under 1400.

I agree with you. I can't believe what bracket racing has come to. MSD Power Grid with Computer controlled ignition slew rates and $70K+ engines. I'm still coming to terms with all the SFI expenses related to running in the 9s. And we wonder why participation is dropping in this sport. We are spending ourselves into extinction.

I more than agree with you. My son would not be able to do this level of racing if I wasn't able to help. That being said I'm glad over the years I've been able to help him. Part of his obsession is my fault as I gave him my '81 Buick to drive in Pro and set the ball in motion then kept adding things to make it faster. That being said after this car is up and running it will all fall on him with a lot less financial support from me. I will be retiring in less than a year (not from racing). But after 43 years with the same company in construction it's time. Besides my Grandson is now interested!
