I'm thinking about getting an enclosed trailer for my door car.
What features would you recommend?
Here's my thoughts and questions: I don't need to live in it but I think Air conditioning and a generator would be a good thing I'm guessing I should plan for a payload of around 4,200 to 4,500 lbs(car plus tools plus generator/ compressor/ misc parts
I prefer all aluminum trailers Including flooring - what do you have? I prefer gooseneck trailers because they are easier to maneuver - but I see most of you guys seem to have bumper pulls any reason for that other than cost? Are your trailers insulated?
What is a good length for a door car.. 24 ft?? 26?? Do you guys get value out of having an awning attached to your trailer or is that a pain/waste of money Do most of you winch your cars in?
What sort of trailer side doors or openings work well for race trailer
From a price point, my hope is to find a used trailer in the $14,000 or less price range.
If you were going to buy a car trailer again, what would you do or not do?

Two of our trailers were bought from a company on the east coast on Racing junk. We got a good deal on them because we went to the factory in Elkhart Indiana to pick them up ourselves. My dad's is a basic 24'. He paid around $5000. Mine is 28' with air, awning, vendor window, rv tongue and 110 volt lights and outlets. I paid about $10,000.
I measured his before buying mine and if I went with a 24', my front tires would've been blocking the side door. Most racers want a side door big enough to drive a golf cart or 4 wheeler through. That way you don't have to unload the car to get the cart out.
If you can afford it, by an inverter generator like the Honda EU series. They are very quiet.
My dad and I drive our cars in. My brother winches his.

Both carts I've had were right at 48 plus a little. Door was 48 but frame was 1/2 1/4 less.

1996 1 ton chevy dually 454 that I usually use for my car. but also have a 2006 chevy 1 ton dually 3500 diesel that I usually have hooked to a horse trailer that I could use as well.
Both trucks are well maintained and I've used both to haul 12,000lbs plus in horse and trailer.

Ha this made me laugh. 2 and 1/2 years ago I started this thread "thinking about getting an enclosed trailer" - I even forgot I posted this! After much analysis, number crunching, craigslist and racing junk searches and bothering people at the track about their trailers, I finally cracked open the wallet and bought one. I move at the speed of a glacier.

What did you do with your open trailer?

What did you do with your open trailer? That trailer is really for farm related stuff like hauling hay, lumber for fencing and to move my skidsteer/backhoe stuff around. I always had to unload something before I could put my car on the trailer. It was way to much work.

The last trailer I bought I bought a 32' tag with an 18" tongue extension for when my son buys me a motor home (lol). I was able to get the altered and golf cart in end to end with room to spare. It was at the time a little over kill but turned out we more than grew into it as it's tight with the 245" dragster and golf cart. My point is think about what might be needed for the future.
