Ok looking for more brain storming on a problem I have had since beginning of season . We freshened up motor and put in a roller cam from a flat tappet . We had roller springs put on .
Engine revs nice good in water box then you hear a little cackle 6000 up . Car leaves on 2 step then as it climbs into 5500 up starts to pop and continues to finish line .
Change plugs plug wires jet up jet down change carbs put another fuel pump on pulled chips pull air shifter module pulled 2 step module pulled high side chip disconnected tach cleaned grounds checked Battery voltage checked Alt voltage New Dist cap cleaned rotor pulled valve covers check lash Hand shifted and foot braked last week same story popped .
Some of the runs have less popping been running some 10s so it will have 9s in it if straightened out .We have abot 20 runs now.
Leaning to weak valve springs at that rpm .I dont know if they were new or used I was not involved on that selection of springs. I have msd 6al . Thanks in advance DR.

possible ignition box or magnetic pickup. also change coil wires and magnetic pickup wires.

Checked timing with 2 different lights. Changed all plug wires .
Got some PMd feedback To change Coil .
I thought as many a msd box works or doesnt same as a coil .Educate me please. Chrysler Dist it has a reluctor and a magnetic pickup Weights were welded open several years ago . Anybody still spins a Dist in a machine remember long ago . Can a coil be tested some where ? Thanks again .

Dennis never took them off .
Going to check springs ,compression,Radiator pressure test to see if head gasket leaking .. Also looking at pressuring cylinders with leak down bubble in radiator air in header or carb . Changing Reluctor ,pickup coil,Coil, and msd box .

Hard to imagine new cam springs having issues , rare , but possible, Coil could produce a high end miss Alltho, it would do it at you shift point , I would think.

I had a issue like that when I made some changes. Went one heat range hotter on plugs. Took care of my high end miss.

It's usually the simplest thing and right under your nose, Don. Cuda 3033 could be on to something with the plug suggestion.

Does the tach act goofy when it starts missing/popping? If so then definately look into the pickup or pickup wiring. I had corrosion in the little black connector cause a miss and goofy tach.
Otherwise I think try a different coil. I have a msd pro coil you can try. But I don't think it is compatable with a 6AL box?

1; plug type and gap. we like NGK's at .020-.025 2; ignition coil you need usually .7 - 1.0 amps of current out of the coil for good, clean high rpm, high cylinder pressure firing 3; valve springs have to control the valves. rollers take/need more pressure 4; too much or little fuel. main jets, air bleeds, etc.
good luck!

Talking with Don, he didn't remember if the issue was there before this year or not, If you go off that , then one would assume, The issues are anew,, , meaning something in the build, or something not hooked up properly in reassembly..

So many items to look at , when chasing issues as this , One has to take a deep breath , Leak down test with motor hot is simple and quick. Heard mention of plugs heat range,, unless your way out on the range with alcohol, non issue, ,. As for the dizzy, several issues can arrise, bad pick up ,, possible , doubtful, because , msd just uses it for a breaker, very low ohms needed, . Coil has been brought up, yes could be , ? It's easy change . Cam springs would be likely suspect. Looking at the wiring in the car , I could see issues arising, , , but , if it has worked in the past , then why add more work . If the simple small list of Checking spring rates , Checking leak down, Change coil, If those do not reveal issues, then return to wiring issue, .

Check the balancer make sure it has not slipped, that could throw off the timing And also cause these symptoms

Thanks guys for tips thoughts . We Checked valve springs with a tester used with rocker arms still on all read about 200 to 220 seat pressure . We changed coil out and magnetic pickup cleaned reluctor surface rust as normal looking set 008 gap . Other thing as you look and try to remember .As I was starting car last Sat air shifter tried to shift this was intermittent and hasnt acted up again .Some say as car was cranking it was triggering the shifter to shift .Thought abot a new Tach or disconnect it . Cleaned and moved some grounds .
Same plugs we have been using .NGK 2 others use same fuel . Reset timing 34 . Shorten gap on plugs as a suggestion . hopefully get out Wed . Next if need to change msd box hope not . Start all over if need to .
