I agree with Bracketracing. Jerry Duncan always said that was the only way to do them, too. Everyone has their own theory and way of doing things.

most people do what they are comfortable with, the main thing is get the car in high gear to get as much wheel speed as possible. But if you are running street tires you need to be careful and not get them too hot. too hot is just as bad or worse than a cold tire.
if you watch some of the pro stock drivers many of them shift.

That has to do with clutch temp

High gear. I guess it would depend on the car.

I roll through slam on the brakes and try to pull a little water with me. Back up and roll through again then get on the front edge of the water and start in low gear with my thumb on the 3-step button. As soon as the tires start to spin I hit high gear rollout until it starts to chatter a little and get off the throttle and click neutral.

In my GTO I roll in, stop, smash brake to set, snap it up in 1st and then straight up to 2nd. I feather it to keep it just under the 3-step. If the car trys to roll out...I'll put her against the 3-step and pro-stock it out.
Dragster is high gear only and pretty much snap and feather.

Burn outs are over rated. Not needed at all with a Hoosier tire. I clean my tires for a split second in high gear.

May be overrated but are sure a lot of fun. Plus I don't kill to slip and slide all the way down the track and a big burnout helps top end traction on our dragster. For sure helps when track temps are low. We run mickeys though and not Hoosiers. Maybe compound difference is why one like more burnout

I actually run a D6 compound Goodyear on my dragster and it's been a great tire. I will say....when it's colder out I do have to do a better one but, in normal or heat I can just snap em for second and then stage.

Burnout length and rpm is like anything else on the car. Adjust as necessary to make your car better for the given set of conditions.
If you can do it consistently without shifting and high gear only then that is best.
