DRAGWAY TO OPEN IN SPRING PADUCAH SUN - BY: DUSTY LUTHY SHULL Plans are steadily moving forward for the resurgence of drag racing in Paducah. Beacon Dragway, located at what is now Grow Airpark adjacent to Paducah International Raceway off Interstate 24, Exit 11, announced a soft opening date of April 6 and sanctioning by the National Hot Rod Association on Tuesday. The drag strip, which is operated by developers Keith Murt and Dr. Blane Grow, will feature racing in three classes — Super Pro, Pro and Footbrake — serving drivers in the immediate area and beyond, said track manager Jeff Bruhn. “I’m getting phone calls from Louisville, Central City and going into Missouri from people who are excited to come here and race,” Bruhn said, “And I think we can be a hub with the new facility that can appeal to them.” The airpark, which originally was a drag strip in the late 1960s and 1970s, has undergone major renovations, including installing a 175-foot concrete launching pad and repaving the racing surface. New lighting, a computer timing system, scoreboards and a concession complex have been added. Read more in The Paducah Sun today or online at www.PaducahSun.com!
