Is there an advantage if any to shifting by time vs. rpm?

I have had some cars that were consistent both ways. Throttle stop cars need shifted on time imo.

Does it make any difference with high h.p and 2000# car? I am thinking about using my SLE and don't know how it all would fit together with time vs rpm shifting. What I'm trying to figure out is how to be more consistent.

I've been shifting off the chip in my MSD box but in talking to Killer Ron's decided to add a Biondo co2 powered starting line enhancer to use with my delay box. The issue I'm trying to figure out is what advantage if any does shifting by time have over by rpm and what would factor in to the equation ( HP, weight etc.) The gentleman I purchased my motor from who ran T/D shifted by time. I guess only trial and error will tell.

I shift by RPM when I run the car wide open and shift by time when I throttle stop it. What you really need to do is run the car shifting it on RPM then see where in the run it shifted at time wise, (mine is usually around 1.9 seconds into the run) and if you want to shift it on time then do it then. Most of the higher HP guys use the time method and say that is more consitent. My little nothing motor makes 880 HP so it really isn't that big of a deal to my combination. The only down side I have heard is that if you shift on time and something happens to throw it off a little you can shift at a lower RPM and lose at little ET that way.

Thanks for all the input. I just need to get it together and see where it works best. I'm waiting to get my engine back so I can go to the dyno. When Doug with AMT did my heads he gave me a range of where he thought it should be and he's built enough of these, but the proofs in the pudding or in this case pull. sg3526 I don't think 880 is bad at all.

Yes my son sent something in. I didn't know about it until I saw it in N.D.. Been sitting on the side lines for a couple years. Sold my 565 to a friend of sg3526 and promised my wife I'd renovate the family room and kitchen ( you think racing is expensive ) Got the projects done and got the itch again so picked up a 632 had it reworked from top to bottom and finally am picking it up this Friday. If thing go well I hope to be back at Gateway late April.

Would love to but have not scheduled dyno time yet. I am going to talk to Chip at Comp. Marine in Moscow Mills and see what his schedule is. I talked to Coan and the converter from the 565 will need to be re-worked for the 632 but until I get the dyno sheets I can't send it off.

Does all my Dyno stuff and machine work. And he won't run it without you being there unless you tell him to.
