Looks like NHRA is making us now replace window nets every two years just like the seatbelts. I gues they go bad sitting in the car too. What a crock.

That SFI spec, 27.1 has been in place since 2006. The only change they are making is you can no longer can use "MESH" style nets.

That SFI spec, 27.1 has been in place since 2006. The only change they are making is you can no longer can use "MESH" style nets. The mesh nets had to have a cert and be changed every 2 years. The ribbon type were good no matter what the date and didn't have to have a cert. Now they HAVE to be SFI 27.1 which means they too need to be changed every 2 years now. A mesh window net is still leagal as long as it has an SFI 27.1 tag on it. In order to avoid the 2 years certs why not wear arm restraints? The rule book states that a full body car that is required to have a cage is required to have a window net. Just arm restraints won't cut it.

Here it is from the 2012 rulebook:
6:3 WINDOW NET An SFI 27.1 ribbon-type or mesh-type window net is mandatory on any full-bodied car required by the rules to have a roll cage. Window net must be securely mounted on the inside of the roll cage, with the permanent attachment at the bottom. All attachment points must be designed in an attempt to protect the driver and avoid contact with track surface or guardwall. Eyelet clips, dogleash hardware, hose clamps, etc. prohibited. Penetration of webbing, except as performed by manufacturer, prohibited. Any modification to net must be performed by manufacturer.

The rule amemndments say-
SECTION 4A: SUPER PRO, PRO, SPORTSMAN, INTERIOR: 6, WINDOW NET (Page 5) Window net meeting SFI 27.1 Mandatory in any full-bodied car required by the rules to have a roll cage. See General Regulations 6:3.
So they are dropping the mesh net. I still don't see where it says they have to be replaced every 2 years. Not everything that is sfi has to be replaced. Such as neck collar, firesuit and arm restraints.

If you go in the very last pages of the rule book where it shows how long all certs are good for it's included in that section. Show chassis certs 3 yrs, pro 1 year Flexplates 5 yrs. Seat Belts 2 yrs. Window nets 2 yrs. They also say that any modification MUST be done by the manufacturer and any frayed or damaged window net must be replaced prior to participating in an event. Kind of makes a little bit of sense. You climb over it to get in and out of your car, you drag all kinds of crap past it like tin work and what have if your interior is removable. When I had my door car I used to have to take my transmission out from the inside. But still, every two years?? Seems a little extreme maybe every 5 or so, it's not holding your butt in the seat if it rolls over or anything.

Thanks for the info. I see they updated a few things in the past few days like finally removing the Snell 2000 rating.

your answer is , YES! must have the date coded window mesh starting next year, it will be just like belts, if you have a cage you have to have the net, I to have a new one but , after talking to nhra, it will not be allow if it doesn't have the date of manufacture!

When ordering nets, make sure you get the right one. Some are dated and some aren't.

If you aren't required to have a cage you don't have to have a sfi date coded net. What I'm saying 440dart is, if you are slower than 6.39 and have an unaltered firewall and floor you aren't required to have a cage. Therefore an old outdated net is fine in your car even if you have a cage.

My old car for example , I could run it at cole co, gateway but they wouldn't let me run anywhere else due to the bar not being correct size, in fact at Indy I was told not to bring car back unless it had full cage due to being mini tubbed, that is considered altered flooring, they wouldn't let me run , I had to spectate but it has run Gateway many times, and won
