yea i ran a 4 hole earlier in the year seems like it slowed so i went back to the open a did better, but im thinking on trying a 2 inch, thats why im waiting and hopingt to do some testing before the end of the year, also wanted to turn the carb sideways with this e-85 see how it does,i had it sideway with race gas last year and did good,im thinking about going to alky in2012,i seen some 2 inch on superpro dragsters and just wondered what it does,i like to try things, but not during the year of racing, just before the year begins or just before it ends

FOOD FOR THOUGH, , this is just an example ,, rich saywers old duster, 451 430 geared dana, on alcohol ken jones 1050, squeezed down to ?980 ? car wieghed 3200, ran 9.80s carb sideways, ran 2 plates ,4 and a open, at the same time, both plates where plates he built of course, and where phenolic, he and ken always talked about what the car did on jets, as far as mph, heat down track, how the car idled, throttle response, etc he then ran dual quads 650s , i sold rich , mounted sideways , and with a diffrent style plates, rich had to slow the car down because he wasnt cert to run in the 9s, i guess what i need to say, is find the right carb guy who not only sells the carb , but will talk to you, and help you with correct info to make the car respond better as you go, other wise you are shooting in the dark

yes , 4 on the top. by carb, then the open on the intake, on a m1 intake, but like i said , there was always jetting going on, 4 corner idle deal some squirter changes that was on alcohol, he is now on e 85 with the demon it is sideways mounted, with a 4 hole plate, , he and ken been getting it lined out,

We did some Dyno pulls with different carb spacers and the results were actually quite surprizing. We ran the motor with no spacers at all and it made 689 HP and 546 Torque. We put a 4 hole straight 2" spacer on it and saw modest increases, 2-3 HP and 5-10 Torque. We then put on a 2" open spacer and it didn't make a change at all we pulled it three times with that one and it stayed right there. The last one we tried was a HVH CNC'd 4 hole 2" spacer bolted it on and made three more pulls. To all of our surprize it made 708 HP and 598 Torque. All three pulls were right there plus or minus 1-2 either way. Needless to say that every motor I build now they all get the HVH spacer. If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes I wouldn't have believed it. Now keep in mind this is pretty stout SBC with killer heads on it and it's only 400" but I liked what I saw..

that is impressive,i know 4 hole spacers are good for torque and low end, while open spacer are good for the top end, thats why i played with a 4 hole in 1/8 mile, but the open was better for me,next time you make dyno pulls try a few with the carb mounted straght, then side ways

The mounting sideways helps when you leave the starting line and launch the car and fuel slosh effects the flow of fuel going to the primaries and secondaries. A motor is stupid and it only sees a signal from the throttle plates when they open and close, it doesn't know which position the throttle plates are, standard of sideways.

WHATS UP I haven't been online for quite a while The original reason for turning the carb sideways was due to lack of fuel delivery, Pumps and regulators have evolved dramatically, the biggest gain turning the carb crossways is drive-ability (no sloshing when coming out the burn out box or during shut down) I have still seen cars that are .05 to .1 quicker cross mounted. Because of no fuel trapping the bowl vent during a hard launch.
As far as spacers 4 hole usually create a torque gain at lower RPM . Open spacers usually help on the top end HP# due to making the plenum bigger. The super sucker is a combo of both as well has CNC cuts to keep the charge turbulent which corrects a lot of faults in certain intake manifolds. We have seen the biggest gain o the Brodix HV series intakes
We have been having very good luck with Rehere Morrison's anti reversion spacer plate spacer combo it works well with combos with a lot of overlap in the camshaft profile. You can tell if you have that going on by looking at your intake runners they will look dirty as well as the bottom of the carb (it really shows up on methanol)
HOPE I WAS SOME HELP I will try to log on more often THANKS

I will run a 4 hole 1" along with an open 1' with the ken s 750 alc carb I bought from rich saywer I should see a few hps gains out of that, Rich said that in order to gain you run them both to see the hp gain?love to have his carb he ran on the duster before he went to dual quad set up, ken done it , I beleive was a 1000/950? I beleive robbie calvert has it or had it?
